Wow Backdraft!! I am sure all the parent/players on the other teams in this tourney appreciate your opinion of their teams. I would love to see you come tell some of the dad's on the other teams what you think about their DD skill level face to face.

The truth always hurts when told. I don't have to tell them they all know it to be true. Because teams have soccer club names on the uniform. Does not mean they are elite teams or even select teams.

Whoseurdaddy I am not commenting on anyones DD skill level DA. I am speaking of the collective skill level of the teams in this age group.

Academy and select teams have grown 10 fold over the last few years. Due to new leagues and clubs poping up every where. So you need to understand that the teams 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 in most clubs are rec level. Plain and simple. Sorry your feeling are hurt. Please do not insult the parents of the children that are playing on these teams. That know the difference as well.

Backdraft, I heard FC Dallas South beat a Lake Highlands Division One team in the Championship game today. The Cosmos! Thought it was a Rec tournament?

So instead of 60 or 70 select teams for a population of over 5 million people, from Amarillo to Wichita Falls to Denton to Tyler to DFW to Waco, etc., there used to be only 6 or 7 teams? I guess they didn't have enough to have two divisions of classic league back then in the mid or early 2000's. Teams must have grown tired of playing each other all the time.

Your really seem to have it all figured out! Maybe these other teams should just quit giving there money away. I mean there daughters obviously have no chance of improving as players if they have already hit 10 years old. You seem like an old-timer that is living in the past. Yes it is about money, but maybe there is more interest also. And you don't have to worry about hurting my feelings, oh what was it, DA, I would actually have to value your opinion for that to happen.

Look at the margin of goals that FCD South scored in bracket play. They were going to win this tournament no doubt. They knew it. It is a great way to build confidence. Before resuming league play.

Sorry but Cosmos is not a true D-1 team. They are on paper. Due to LHGCL bubble gum format for the first year 20 teams D-1! Yeah Right. That was done to help everyone feel good about their kids playing high level soccer(LOL).

No disrespect to cosmos.I am sure they work hard in this wonderful sport of youth soccer.

Backdraft is 100% correct. I do think some credit should be given to FCD South. basically they started as a very low level Polars team -they heavily relied on Rowdie studs in tournaments, and did well ina few. Picked up some good players and merged with TXN Powell and are doing great . But now they are making a name for themselves. i THINNK ONCE league play begins we'll see where they rank. Although they are doing better the rankings are a bit unrealistic, because most top teams had one hard game the first weekend and they did not-so they are ranked higher than they should be right now-but anything can happen and they coud keep that top 2 spot.If so-it's good to have another strong team in top 10!

What a sad misconception of select soccer. It is NOT about the "top 10" teams and how wonderful they are. In every sport there are those that are more athletic and skilled than others. However, select soccer is about having someone other than a player's dad coach/teach your child. No about someone who about 90% of the time is only interested in what is best for their DD. It is about learning about the game of soccer and improving your play, not watching TV and not playing video games. Soccer is a game that can be played thourghout life. These girls that are playing D3 or Plano Premier or Arlington are having a great time and improving. What can you tell at 10..good grief!!! I say yeah that there are enough teams for all the girls interesed in playing at a higher level get a chance to grow. Rec soccer is totally different. If you have been there you know.

I guess it sure is hard to just say "congrats on winning the tournament" to kids these days. Someone always has to do something to tear down the accomplishments of children to make themselves feel better about themselves. Then they hide behind "the truth hurts" comment. Really, does it matter that much whether or not your kid wins the soccer game? I am as competitive as any, but I do realize what transpires in my DDs games are not about me. If your daughter is on a top 10 team, congrats. Good for her, not necessarily you because it is not about you. I have a feeling those people can never be satisfied even if they have the top team.

The single greatest benefit of this site is to remind you. It should remind you that when you get to the soccer game, it is quite likely that there will be someone there that can not control themselves. It is unfortunate that it is that way, but those that can not control themselves in public, certainly aren't going to control themselves on an anonymous blog.

One other note. At the tournament last weekend, we had a spectator hanging with our parents that was HUGE, HUGE, HUGE. I don't know who he was, but he was with our coach's dad and girlfriend. Think 6-4 300 and ripped with muscle. Amazing how much better the sideline behavior was.

I'm not sure it really is ten-fold growth of select teams, but a rising tide raises all ships in the harbor. In this case, its the perfect storm of rising tides x 4.

1) There is no doubt soccer is on an fast fast upswing in terms of popularity. Read this article - http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/sports/2011/03/24/major-league-soccer-poised-overtake-nhl-4th-popular-professional-sports-league/#ixzz1UghowW8W for perspective as soccer passes way more established hockey.

2) DFW is the fastest growing metro, now #6 in America in sheer size, and the population growth is very very young with lots of young kids.

3) Dallas and Texas in general have amazing Hispanic growth and soccer front and center in the Hispanic community.

4) Being a soccer player is gaining more respect at school. More kids are happy being soccer players than 10 years ago. It is considered cool. Never underestimate the importance of cool factor with kids.

All this means that Dallas area soccer should have doubled in number of quality teams in the last 10 years. This doesn't mean that the Arlington tourney had the quality in attendance but don't think that growth is wrong and its only about the money. Club has always been linked to money. Now there is more of it to go around given the rising tide.
