Wow Backdraft!! I am sure all the parent/players on the other teams in this tourney appreciate your opinion of their teams. I would love to see you come tell some of the dad's on the other teams what you think about their DD skill level face to face.

Re: Arlington Labor Day Tourney
Whoseurdaddy I am not commenting on anyones DD skill level DA. I am speaking of the collective skill level of the teams in this age group.
Academy and select teams have grown 10 fold over the last few years. Due to new leagues and clubs poping up every where. So you need to understand that the teams 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 in most clubs are rec level. Plain and simple. Sorry your feeling are hurt. Please do not insult the parents of the children that are playing on these teams. That know the difference as well.

So instead of 60 or 70 select teams for a population of over 5 million people, from Amarillo to Wichita Falls to Denton to Tyler to DFW to Waco, etc., there used to be only 6 or 7 teams? I guess they didn't have enough to have two divisions of classic league back then in the mid or early 2000's. Teams must have grown tired of playing each other all the time.

Your really seem to have it all figured out! Maybe these other teams should just quit giving there money away. I mean there daughters obviously have no chance of improving as players if they have already hit 10 years old. You seem like an old-timer that is living in the past. Yes it is about money, but maybe there is more interest also. And you don't have to worry about hurting my feelings, oh what was it, DA, I would actually have to value your opinion for that to happen.

Look at the margin of goals that FCD South scored in bracket play. They were going to win this tournament no doubt. They knew it. It is a great way to build confidence. Before resuming league play.mexsock wrote:Backdraft, I heard FC Dallas South beat a Lake Highlands Division One team in the Championship game today. The Cosmos! Sorry but Cosmos is not a true D-1 team. They are on paper. Due to LHGCL bubble gum format for the first year 20 teams D-1! Yeah Right. That was done to help everyone feel good about their kids playing high level soccer(LOL).
No disrespect to cosmos.I am sure they work hard in this wonderful sport of youth soccer.

I'm not sure it really is ten-fold growth of select teams, but a rising tide raises all ships in the harbor. In this case, its the perfect storm of rising tides x 4.
1) There is no doubt soccer is on an fast fast upswing in terms of popularity. Read this article - http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/sports/2011/03/24/major-league-soccer-poised-overtake-nhl-4th-popular-professional-sports-league/#ixzz1UghowW8W for perspective as soccer passes way more established hockey.
2) DFW is the fastest growing metro, now #6 in America in sheer size, and the population growth is very very young with lots of young kids.
3) Dallas and Texas in general have amazing Hispanic growth and soccer front and center in the Hispanic community.
4) Being a soccer player is gaining more respect at school. More kids are happy being soccer players than 10 years ago. It is considered cool. Never underestimate the importance of cool factor with kids.
All this means that Dallas area soccer should have doubled in number of quality teams in the last 10 years. This doesn't mean that the Arlington tourney had the quality in attendance but don't think that growth is wrong and its only about the money. Club has always been linked to money. Now there is more of it to go around given the rising tide.
