Asking for insight to the spirit of the UIL rule which disallows a club player from being on a roster of a select team which is coached by a high school coach in the district which the player lives.    Why do they have this rule?  It seems to penalize the player from playing for a local select team.  Has anyone been able to get a waiver or know of some loop hole?

The reason for the rule is to prevent high school coaches into strong-arming a high school player to play on his club team. If she is on Sting and he coaches the HS team and is also a coach with LP, what happens if he say you have to come to his club team to get playing time on the HS team?

The rule removes the chance of this happening.

It has been around for a while and have never heard of a waiver or a loophole though many have sought after same.

Unicorns is right about the spirit of the rule. I think its a good rule...it avoids that Lacrosse lawsuit you may have seen a few weeks ago.

Most HS coaches that coach club either coach the opposite sex (if they coach girls in HS, they coach boys in club or vice versa), or they pass off their teams to other coaches before they reach HS age.

Why would UIL care if a kid is forced to play club soccer? UIL cares only about UIL.

It seems more likely that if a kid is playing for a club team, UIL would be more worried about
- the coach trying to recruit the club player to move to his district to play on the HS team
- the coach having an advantage in that the player trains with the coach year round

I believe the main thing the UIL is trying to avoid is the pay to play scenarios like outlined in the lacrosse lawsuit. It avoids many possible conflicts all of which are messy.

It is about feeder school not overall district. Also this rule applys to female coach for high school coaching boys in club from same school. So if a coach teaches at say Marcus and a kid from Plano wants to play for them in club they can. The student can not go to his/her school!!!

I don't think there are loopholes, I know a H.S. coach that lost his job a couple of years ago because he tried to circumvent this rule. Was a girls coach in HS and had a boys club team.
