Things look good for Sting and Lonestars to meet in semis. CASL/BUSA game could be tight but CASL should probably advance. Lonestars should have no problem with NASA....Feet completely controlled the game. Interesting strategy by teams we faced in bracket. Following Feet's win in game 1, our next 2 opponents played not to win but to keep it close, in hopes of keeping goal differential down so they could try to secure the 2nd spot. We faced packed boxes games 2 and 3....not much fun. Expect a tough game vs Atlanta Fire today....this game probably the most uncertain quarterfinal match-up.

Have had great luck with the weather so far, a bit rainy and cool first 3 days. However today will be very hot and humid.

I bet they will have it in Dallas next year after my DD is done playing club. I believe they had it in Dallas the year before the '96 girls were eligible for Regionals too.

They earned that one the hard way coming back from 2-1 down a player. Great work Sting. Some STX fans saying 2nd Sting goal was offsides, but who knows. I wasn't there.

Sorry gang....been out of pocket last couple of days. Here's a bit of a recap.

Quarterfinal game, Feet vs Atlanta Fire...
First half - all Atlanta Fire (they had slight wind at back and played downhill.
Second half - all Feet. Feet probably slightly better overall at end of regulation. End of regulation 0-0.
First overtime - Feet controlled first 5-7 minutes, Atlanta Fire controlled last 8-10.
Second overtime - all Atlanta Fire. Our keeper was awesome and almost single-handedly kept us in the game.
First round of PKs - Feet made first three and blocked both of Atlanta Fire's ist 2 attempts....so Feet was up 3-0 going into AF's 3rd kick. AF made 3rd kick to bring it to 3-1. Feet missed next 2 kicks, AF made both of theirs.
Second round of PKs - Feet made first, AF made first, Feet made 2nd, Feet keeper blocked AF's 2nd attempt.
AF probably deserved better than the tie and the shootout loss. I believe they were the better team when factoring in the OT play. Very happy to get the win despite not playing very well.

Semifinal game, Feet vs CASL....
This was a rematch of our ECNL game in March which ended 0-0. Feet played much better today. I'd give 1st half to Feet 60/40. We scored on awesome bicycle kick, off of corner. Feet up 1-0 at half. Second half was probably 75/25 Feet. Many, many very good scoring chances for Feet in 2nd half....1 post, 1 crossbar, 2 headers on crosses...just wide, 2 well struck balls just high. CASL never really mounted much offense, only 2-3 decent scoring chances all game. Ended 1-0, could have easily been 3 or 4.

Stng vs Lonestars....
Saw Lonestars score (what appeared to be) less than 1 minute into game. But really only saw the OT periods and PKs. Sting lost defender to red card just outside the box in 2nd half so was a player down for much of 2nd half and both 15 min OT periods. Regulation ended 2-2. Play was very spirited, as were the sidelines. Sting did a great job playing down a player. Good back and forth play, decent chances by both teams.

Looking forward to a great game with Sting tomorrow. Congrats to the NTX teams. Honestly, Lonestars looked to be playing very well thru the tourney. Based on their play, I felt they might get to the final over Sting.

Weather looks to be rough between now and game time tomorrow. Hopefully we can get the game played and make our way home. Enough of the hotel life in Tennessee, already.

Sting scored in final minute

Congrats to Sting for a well-deserved win....their 2nd consecutive Region III championship. Weather was cool due to all of the rain, field was wet but not as muddy as would have been expected. This was probably due to the field being set on about a 15 degree slope. As was the case for a few of our games each half...one team had the benefit of playing downhill and having a decent wind at their back.

Despite Feet having the wind/hill in their favor, I'd give the slight edge to Sting in the first half. sting had better possession and also a bunch of corner kicks. Feet had some good scoring chances, as did Sting. 0-0 and end of half.

Second half, right out of the gate Sting pinned Feet on their heels for approx 20 minutes before Feet could muster up anything. Sting let numerous scoring chances go unrewarded. Feet faithful went nuts when their kids finally crossed midfield! Second half of second half was played a little more evenly. But still Sting had better chances. Sting put on pretty strong pressure for 2-3 minutes, preceeding the goal which came with approx 40 seconds remaining in regulation. Total deflation for Feet fans as we were hoping for OT....and a chance to get the hill back.
Want to take a moment to commend the Feet kids. It's been a very tough injury year for our kids (looks like we lost another one to probable ACL tear....our 3rd ACL this year). We've been very short-rostered much of the year and played with many kids that were beaten up enough that they probably shouldn't have even been out there themselves. No boo-hooing...it is what it is. But we're very proud of the fight and spirit that truthfully probably allowed them to overachieve at this event. Our hefty dues came back to us three-fold (in the form of pride) this week.

A lot of great sportsmanship and favorable interaction among players, coaches and parents following the game. Truly what the game should be about. A fun event to be a part of. All-in-all a game Sting deserved to win and we wish them the very best at Nationals....knowing full well they'll do NTX proud.

I agree with everything Socrocks has said. Both their players and parents showed extreme class not only during but after the game. I have friends on the Sting team team and they were very compassionate not only to me but to all of our parents and players.

I think Sting is a very deserving champion and this year could be their time to win the whole thing. Like us, they need some serious healing time on their roster. Unfortunately, with Colorado in a couple of weeks and Nationals right after that, the healing time will be short.

Good luck to Sting and their road to Phoenix. We will send you off with a little DFeeters Swag that carried us through Regionals!!!
