One set of field are listed as competitive fields and these are located on the western side of the park near Beach Street. Those would be my first guess, but does anyone know which set of field will be used?
Thanks
From Beach Street, pass the first main entrance. You will go to the first light (at a gas station) and take a right. If there is any sign there indicating this is the way to the soccer fields, I've never seen. Once you go right, you will be on a small, "rurally" looking road in an iffy neighborhood. Keep going and on the right is another main entrance to Gateway. It is slighly set back and can pass if you are going too fast. Pass the front fields that will be on the left. Follow the road all the way around, veering right. You will then find a fairly nice parking lot, well lit turf fields. The turf soccer fields are confusing and hard to find the first time out there.

Re: National Elite Prep Showcase
My guess is that the iffy street is East 1st Street.
For a land mark are the turf fiels surronded by the disc golf course or the sofftball fields?
Thanks again

The turf fields are kind of off by themselves in a fenced in area. There is a large shaded canopy area at the entrance to the fenced area. I think the softball fields are behind a little levee that is at one end of the soccer parking lot. You don't really see them from the turf soccer fields and the parking lots do not connect. We recently played a make up game at Gateway against Nolan and many parents who had never been there before were late trying to find the complex. Give yourself some extra time, just in case.

Really. Does anyone know how teams are invited to this? I am assuming past performance/reputation, but I haven't tried to dig into it.

No reason for those kinds of scores.

Typical behavior to be expected from the coach involved.
I think one of the Hockaday girls was hurt tonight? Someone said a fractured collar bone and a broken arm? Hope this is not true.

I think they meant to invite their basketball team. Never known PD to have a strong soccer program.

Jeff, I am not sure but BL has been playing in this tournament a long time. I think some teams are invited but I think if a team wants to participate, they can apply. JATO Athletics. I know your team is certainly competative enough. They have 3 brackets too. Some very good local coaches attending, though most will probably only watch teams playing at TCU. Everyone can have an off game. Saw Ursuline score on themselves last night. Great team but they put on their boots one foot at a time too.

Those results were harsh.Uncle Numanga wrote:Poor Palo Duro. Long way to come to be treated so badly.
But what's the proper etiquette for scoring goals in a showcase tournament? A coach shouldn't try to run up a score but if you force your kids to stop scoring goals in a showcase tournament, where scouts should be there watching the game, are you really hurting your kids by making them stop? I know there are other ways to show skill during a game but nothing turns heads faster than a ball in the back of a net. Let's say you have a girl that wants a scholarship but hasn't gotten interest yet. Shouldn't you let her score 6 goals while recruiters are watching if she has that ability?
What's the correct etiquette for these coaches?

Late game last night and by the time everyone home and ready to sleep, way too late and morning way too soon. Just dropped DD at school for a cold school bus ride out to the Provinces. Getting on some warmer gear, drinking morning coffee, heading out soon too.
Lynch played well today. 1-0 win over St. Stephens. Woot Woot.

In the Palo Duro game against Carroll, the majority of the starters played the first ten minutes, then didn't play the rest of the game.

No college coach is going to be impressed with six goals on what must be the equivelant of an open net. That is just unfortunate to be in a showcase against a team so mismatched. Most scouts will just walk away because there is no way to judge a player's quality unless there are one or two stars on the losing team that they are interesed in.

I don't know if it is true but I heard Palo Duro was a late add when somebody else dropped out. That might explain why they ended up playing against some of the better competition.
I agree, it would not benefit anybody for one person to score six goals. In a game like that, the college coach would have already left to another field I would think. I know the Coppell coach came to the Carroll/Palo Duro game and left about 5 minutes into it. He was thinking Palo Duro was a CA team but soon found out otherwise.
