Re: Impressions of HS teams so far
Some of the group lived up to their preseason billing (Carroll, Coppell) and some did not (most notably Colleyville). My assessment is more from the run of play perspective, than necessarily the score (especially the 2 short scrimmages vs Carroll/Grapevine).
My feeling is that Carroll is particularly solid and Coppell looked pretty good, too. I felt FM pretty handily controlled all of the other games...from a possession and scoring chance perspective (despite the 1-0 loss to Rosary, FM heavily controlled the game). Not sure my perspective means much to anyone else, since FM was the basis for comparison in all of the games.
Though I didn't see them play, clearly Marcus made a statement. Their results probably speak for themselves. It also looks like Keller made a strong showing. Boyd did well until the Grapevine tie....which sort of surprised me. And Ursuline had solid results, short of their loss to Marcus.

Soc, I was speaking to the Rosary coaches before their game against Amarillo and they pretty much confirmed that Flower Mound had the better play in that game.
It looks like Grapevine did pretty well against some stout competition. They lost 1-0 to Aquinas and tied Boyd and Coppell. The also lost 5-2 to Kingwood which makes you wonder if they were getting some people in that game. I started to watch some of their scrimmage against Flower Mound and they started out with second teamers per one of the parents. I didn't stay around so don't know if the first team played much and how they did.
From the tournament I would say Heritage was over ranked and Marcus was under ranked, at least early in the season. Looks like that has been corrected with this weeks ranking. I don't know if Carroll and Marcus should be one and two but the people that rank seemed to give more credit to winning than who the competition was (Marcus probably had better competition than Carroll). That is, except for Keller. I think they have a pretty good team and should be ranked somewhere.
I am suprised they had all these Texas teams ranked in the Top 50 before any games were played. For the most part, I would say the Texas teams outplayed the out of state teams this year, unlike previous years. Maybe the out of state competition was not as strong this year (some of the same teams but not as strong?).
Looks like there is supposed to be some good weather this weekend. Lets enjoy it while we can before it gets miserable like it was Thursday night.

We face both Ryan and Hebron again this weekend, so should be a good prep for district play.

Denton Ryan is 4A not 5A.

For 7-5A next year I have heard from a coach that Saginaw and Guyer are gone to 4A, Ryan and Timbercreek are in to 7-5A, rest stays the same. Not sure it's real butmakes some sense.

Have also heard a rumor that Fossil Ridge may move down to 4A again but I have no idea I'd this is true.

You should learn to hide kids better like some of the less scrupulous 4A schools *cough* Ryan *cough*.

Wrong Denton school...it's Guyer that has creative enrollment/dis enrollment ideals. Ryan HS is going up to 5a because they aren't as creative as GuyerGunners wrote:Number07 wrote:We (TC) have been told we will be 5A next year... Would have preferred another year or 2 in 4A personally.

Care to expand on that?
Are you suggesting a less than scrupulous attempt by a school to misrepresent enrollment...so as to gain an advantage on the fields of athletic play?
