I heard there are 88, but who's counting? Mike Powers is an awesome coach. He has won a U17 national championship on the boys side, and I'm sure will attract enough quality girls to put together an impressive team. I wouldn't be surprised even at this late stage to see some folks jump to him due to his background and reputation. If my DD wasn't so happy with her current situation, I would be very tempted to take her there.

Mike might be a great coach for people in the know, but I, and I'm sure others, don't always know, so a little marketing and sales should be required on posts like this one. I really wish details about a coach and their philosophies would get posted whenever a new team "forms or looks to add girls" - and in the case of Andro, some info about the club's financial state of health - didn't they run into trouble in the past? Is that trouble 100% behind them? Or am I mixing this up with another club? Parents need real info to make important decisions, especially only a couple of months before signing contracts. If you are going to change teams, the next 30 days is basic last chance or sign where you are at.

Yes because this is the place all clubs run to to post the information you are requesting. Lol.
You've figured out how to post on a public forum so I'm going to stretch out on a limb and guess you've got this Internet thing figured out. Maybe even that phone technology too. God forbid we reach out to the coach and ask the questions you ponder ourselves. But maybe I can help a little.
Mike is a fantastic coach and an even better person. Re-read that sentence and ask yourself how many other club coaches that applies to? There are others I'm sure but all I'm saying is the pool is kinda small. His track record of developing players and having success is outstanding and evident to any who have been around club soccer for any length of time.
As for your other questions you'd have to ask Mike. From my dealings with him in the past he'll have little trouble giving you an honest answer.

Powers is a great coach and awesome guy all the way around. His ability to train players and build the players confidence is his biggest attribute. As far a the "financial" woes of andromeda, you must separate andromeda SC from andromeda FC. Amdromeda FC is as stronger than the SC ever was. Michael was one of the faithful that state till the bitter end due to loyalty.

Jake,
Mike is not one to "market". He prefers to let his teams & their development speak for themselves. He had a long and impressive career as a player before he started coaching which you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Powers_%28soccer%29. As others have noted, he is an even better person than he is a coach. He is calm, collected, and one of the best teachers of the game. Watching him run a group through a skills session is a sight to behold. I know he would be happy to answer any and all questions you would have. Mike had nothing to do with the financial issues at the old Andro, and AFAIK, the new Andro is just fine on that front.

You're kidding, right?
How much time do you think you have? Most teams sign their players on July 1 which means they know who that will be by June 15 or earlier. June is also the month when families are told to take their vacations because July is prep for qualifying. If you are going to look around for a new team, coaches will want to see your kid in a number of practices and games so I would guess three practices? and a couple of games? if they are being at all picky. It is tournament season with spring over so games are hit and miss depending on the number of tournaments a team is in. So if you visit and try three teams, more than 30 days can fly by pretty quick. Maybe I was over dramatic with the 30 days in my post above but I can't see waiting until the 60 day or June 1st mark to start unless you are not picky about where you land. I sincerely wish you the best of luck and hope it all works out great.

Re: Andromeda & Mike Powers to form 02 Girls Team
Crush 02 looking to fill roster.
Colvin practice invitation.
Solar Starks looking for goalie.
DTFW looking to add to roster.
FCD Pratt looking for players.
Polaris finishing out roster.
Andro looking to start team.
It's the same thing. If you are happy where your at, fine stay there. If your not, here are you options. This IS the place to look for teams for your dd future. I get sick of everyone disrespecting other teams. If you don't like something or someone fine, forget about it. But to go and post disrespecting remarks is childish.
Mike powers is a Great Coach. My dd has been to his practices and he is a great coach.
His son was the Gatorade player of the year last year over the whole Dallas/ft Worth area.
So if you are looking for a stand up kind of Coach. Give him a call or any of the other teams looking for players. If not, keep quiet and be happy where you are.

Re: Andromeda & Mike Powers to form 02 Girls Team
Yet, somehow that team remained top 4 all 8 years in LHGCL, played a very attractive style of soccer, had a great sideline and the kids that wanted to play college ball did. I watched all the teams from the '79's to the '91's and that 84 team was truly a remarkable bunch. Unfortunately, I did not have an '84 so we never got to play for him, but if we'd had the chance, we would not have hesitated.

Re: Andromeda & Mike Powers to form 02 Girls Team
A proven coach + a bunch of 10 year old girls who love soccer + time to practice and play together = a good soccer team
That's a formula for success at any levels of competition. Not just a few talented players but a group of solid players who play together as a team makes soccer easy to play on the field and fun to watch on the sidelines. This is why we all love sports!
