League Challenge Cup June 1-3 and June 8-10th, 2012

Heard a new tournament is coming to Academy Soccer this Summer in partnership with US Club Soccer. Sounds like the principle is to pull the top teams from every league and put them into a single tournament with the 1st weekend June 1-3rd being Group Play and the 2nd weekend June 8-10th being Elimination Play.

The cool thing about this tournament as it was explained to me is that following the tournament everyone is placed into an online Challenge Round where by each team will have a login to manage their teams profile (designating tournaments and leagues they will play in for future planning) and the best part, submit challenges online up to 2 teams above their teams current placement post tourney, if the challenged team accepts the challenge, the Challenger pays the challenge fee which covers Refs, Field Rental and Admin fee and the management company coordinates a game date that works for both teams and the Challenged team picks the field location and pays nothing for the game.

The idea being that this Round would give teams a great way in which to get competitive games for their teams throughout the summer without having to play in a ton of tournaments with unknown opponents and questionable or unknown level of competition. And for the tourneys they do play in, they can plan that based on what teams are entering into their online profiles.

More information should be out this week, but from everything I have seen this sounds like a interesting concept.

Yes I have heard about this. In my opinion this is an Awesome concept.

I heard they want the top 32 teams in each age group. If they can make that happen it would be like having a NTX world cup. The challenge concept after the tourny is what makes this really interesting. It's almost like saying if you think you can hang with the teams above you then " just bring it".

Someone in the 04s should set up what we have done for the 05s and will be for the 06s. I've got a long list of teams that want to play and it doesn't cost a dime.

Would this be for the rankings going into the qualifying tournament?
Question is will the league challenge cup have any bearing on the rankings?

If not why would a coach not want to play the best teams out there?
