FC Force ESS - is it funny or sad?
FYI - don't think FC Force is a low cost options, they charge as much if not more than big clubs. My son had a friend who regretfully signed with their 00 boys and paid $3k to play ppl d2 for TB 98s...no 00 team made.

Re: FC Force ESS - is it funny or sad?
My DD was a bit intimidated by their name. We were still rec at the time!
I was impressed with what a I saw in pregame from their 8 yr olds.
Then the game started....I saw a bunch of fancy footwork and absolutely no passing.
None. We won, but felt like we got away with something.
Judging from the previous post...this 'skills only' approach continues thru the older groups too.

Ive seen the same FC Force team play for years indoor and out and many girls have been there as long as I remember. I know TB trains ball skills and not tactics with the idea the player can learn the game at any time, but skills take years to learn. I know the pitch was to avoid D1 and competition and when you get older you'll have the skill to be able to play anywhere....but these girls are now almost 12 and the gap is growing between their ability and traditional club players. Besides the obvious lack of soccer awareness, which isn't being taught by ESS, their ball skills weren't close to the girls on the other team. When is their skill training going to pay off? Do their parents realize their DDs aren't going to get to D1 and don't mind paying for never ending skill's training? I know from comments I hear that most think TB is a joke, but after watching this game I wondered if the players' families get it for what it is or are duped?

I've watched with interest the route being taken by some of the FC Force teams. On one hand, I speak to an awful lot of parents who are looking for what I refer to as "the middle ground" in regard to soccer: A viable option between the lacadaisical nature of local rec play and the all encompassing grind of select. So in that respect, I think TB is onto something by taking a skills-first approach and playing in PSA. It often comes as a shock to parents that there are some very talented teams in this league... good enough to regularly beat FC Force groups.
On the other hand, I think FC Force is horrendously over-priced. And if the only training is individual skills (i.e. fancy-smancy moves and very little in the way of tactics) then that won't work out well for the players in the long run. What are "skills" anyway? Parents talk as though passing, overlaps, defensive funneling, strong tackles, et cetera are not skills. Soccer is a game of putting together all of the components in such a way that the one team is better than the other.

I'm one of the people that wasn't familiar with FC Force before seeing this string. I think the concept is interesting. The theory that coaching "ball skills and not tactics with the idea the player can learn the game at any time, but skills take years to learn" is an interesting one.JustaSport wrote:RosiePalms wrote:Watched an FC Force 01 girls team get beat 20-0 over the weekend by what looked to be a talented, but non affiliated group. My question is about HOW the individual skills are being taught. Are they just being taught skills through repetition but the competition aspect is limited? I doubt it but if that is the case than I think there's the failing. You can't teach skills and stop there. You need competition as a part of practice to teach the game. Skills cannot be taught in a vacuum. Trying to exclusively teach skills without competition is like trying to teach swimming without water.

Them girls are good.
They could compete and do well in D1.

Okay, you're fishing so I'll bite. Who is this phonomenal "non-affiliated" team about which two posters have written? I'll guess Infiniti since they are going to take D3 by storm... based on all the hype.

Too bad we really won't know for 2 years. They will probably qualify for D3, but with as watered down as that division is this year, it really won't say much.

*puff* *puff* pass...you're messing with the rotation. There is no way that team does well in D1. No way. Even with D1 being depleted from ECNL, they don't make it out of last place.

Obviously you are just guessing, because anyone that has seen them plays knows "Coach" is accurate.
