107 tomorrow?
107 tomorrow?
I'd be curious to see what precautions are taken from the TD's perspective. I suppose water breaks aside, there's not much that can be done.
Bring your misters and canopies!

Also have someone buy a garden sprayer. It is like a giant mister.

Re: 107 tomorrow?
Last night, one of my DD's teammates asked the coach for a bathroom break. Nothing out of the ordinary. No complaints of feeling sick. Thankfully, he was keeping a close eye on his watch. And when 10 minutes passed, he asked us parents if we would go looking for her.
I found this poor girl, locked in a bathroom stall, on the floor of this park's bathroom facility. She'd vomited. Was barely strong enough to stand. When she opened the door, there was zero color in her face. She was shaking. Suffered muscle cramps. Obviously, she had heat exhaustion.
Our new team rule -- no one goes to the bathroom by themselves.
There is now a buddy system whether we are at practice, at a tournament, between games. Doesn't matter. Even better if a parent goes with, even if to just stand vigil outside and keep an eye on the time.
The girls aren't happy with it. They feel they are old enough to take care of themselves. And most of the time, they are. But don't let them talk you into it. Walk your kid to the bathroom, no matter how old they are, because the alternative is far scarier.

I've never been so happy to not be playing in a tournament.

Scary. I hope she is doing fine.

I'm sure she still feels like crap today, but she's okay. But I'd hate to think what could/would have happened if the coach had become distracted or lost track of time.
Luckily, we had FrogToggs, misters, ice packs, etc. on hand, were in a shaded area and could cool her body fairly quickly. Also helps to have a coach who's a former Marine with desert training and has dealt with heat exhaustion.
And I'm with you. So very glad we aren't playing this weekend.
ETA: I've gotta get one of those fans.

Wash cloth, not towel. A frozen wash cloth is not large enough to drop the body temperature quickly enough to be dangerous. If it is left rolled up it will stay cold for a few minutes but covers very little area. If unrolled to cover more area it is only cool in a matter of seconds. A cool wash cloth in 107 degree heat is warm in seconds. It will only be frozen the first time it is used then it will only be very cold from being in a cooler. Freezing them the night before just helps the ice in the cooler last longer.
