Premiere League Standings 10/19/09 Pl10

Sting looks to be all but unbeatable right now. Neutral

Toss up between Solar/Feet, with Solar Red needing help to figure in the top two (two advance, right?).

Lonestars Red could be a spoiler, but they'll need to win four if not five of their remaining games to figure in.

You're right about Sting. They're playing very well. They earned 12 corners off of us yesterday…scoring on 2 (I think we had 1). I think they also had 5 free kicks in their attacking end. It was a one-way street in Set-piece City. Ouch!

Advancing from PL is a little confusing. The top 2 from PL do advance to Regionals unless…one of those is a State Cup winner. In that instance I think that team will advance as State Cup winner and they will take the next team in line from PL. So the 3rd place PL team actually has a reasonable chance to advance too. Maybe even the 4th place team if Lonestars win State Cup in Texas-South?!?

Still some key games left but it's certainly down to 5 teams. Sting controls their own destiny, the math for Solar Red doesn't look good and Lonestars are in a lot better shape than the current point totals would suggest. Should Sting lose to (or tie) Solar on Saturday things could get really interesting.

21 Sting: Solar, Albion A, Albion B
20 Solar: Sting, Lonestars Red, Classics Elite
19 Feet: Solar Red, Classics Elite, Lonestars Red
15 Solar Red: Feet, Albion A, Albion B
13 Lonestars Red: Tulsa Natl, Solar, Feet, NYSA Fury, Hurricane

Sting is definitely on a great run. They are the most consistent with few goals scored against them and they are scoring. They ruled our game and dominated the field, IMO. Solar seems to be starting to play better as a team. Looks like all their new players are fitting into the mix nicely. That was a great game on Sunday, which was fairly even. However, they were better at capitalizing on opportunities. Feet got off to a strong season start, better so than the last few years. In the past they have performed better in the Spring. This years good start for them should get them a leg up in State Cup seeding. Now to our team, until we find a way to play more consistently, make fewer mistakes, and learn to capitilize on others we will continue to struggle. I think the thing that most of our parents agree on is that our coach is doing a great job. The girls are learning, being challenged, and being held accountable. As long as all that remains it is ultimately up to the girls to figure out how to improve their game. Looks like our fate may lie in our performance at State Cup if we have a chance at regionals. So, if we can do that it won't be an easy road.

2: D'FEETERS 96 (PL) 7 3 2 2 8 7 11
3: SOLAR 96 (PL) 5 3 1 1 11 5 10
4: SOLAR RED 96 (PL) 5 2 1 2 4 5 7

Premier League

Team MP W D L GF GA Pts

1: STING 96 8 7 0 1 21 2 21
2: SOLAR 96 8 6 2 0 18 6 20
3: D'FEETERS 96 8 6 1 1 17 6 19
4: SOLAR RED 96 8 5 0 3 13 8 15
5: LONESTARS 96G RED 6 4 1 1 8 3 13

As you can see, Lake Highlands is the tougher league. Check out the goal for and goals against ( you have to do a little algebra to convert to a per game basis). Many more goals scored per game in PL. The advantage of premier league is the top 2 go to Regionals versus the single team that wins State cup. But I've pretty much thought that if you can't win State cup ( given closer proximity to regionals), going to regionals is in effect just to get some more games against good new teams. There have been exceptions but they are few and far between. A good case of this is Solar's rough start due to August injuries, which will have no bearing on how good they are come April.

Premier league would make more sense to occur in spring, closer to nationals. It's like playing football in the fall then having the Super Bowl in May.
