FINISHING OUT D1 FALL 2009 Empty FINISHING OUT D1 FALL 2009

Post by bronxdad 21/10/09, 09:42 am

With the season winding down here’s how it is looking:
1. Sting wins out and finishes with 24points
2?. Solar still has FC, Rev and Sting; they will win 2 of the 3 and finish with 16. If they tie in one of those two then we have a tie for second with 14
3?. Texans should win 2 of their next 3 and finish with 16, a tie would also bring them down to 14 also. If they win out lookout Solar
4?. Feet have SRed left and can finish with 14, but with Feet’s recent performance this is NOT a lock. This will be a big game this weekend for BOTH teams. Feet lose to Sred and they fall to the bottom of this group and a win by FC makes this really interesting
5?. Solar Red should win 2 of the next 3 and would give them 13. Win out and they are tied for second with Solar

Let the drama, math and prognostications begin

FINISHING OUT D1 FALL 2009 Empty Re: FINISHING OUT D1 FALL 2009

I can't even begin to guess how it will end... One game at a time right now is about all I can think about. No doubt this weekends game is BIG for Feet and SRed. Will we be green or red with envy? It might be best for the players if no parents attend this game. So, I move that we all drop our kids off at the field then proceed for an early happy hour in a close parking lot and wait for the text messages from the dd's to begin. Do I hear a second?

Teams will be lucky to play this weekend with the rain we are getting right now. UTD had standing water on the sidelines this past weekend so you can probably imagine what those fields look like now. Not sure they will dry enough by Saturday darn it!!

Sorry to "rain" on the soccer parade.

I am about ready to say let's give up and start again in the Spring. I have 2 in club soccer and our entire household is at the mercy of weather and coaches. I am fed up.

FINISHING OUT D1 FALL 2009 Lhgcl10

Sting - Finish w/ 24 points.
Feet - Have a very tough game w/ SoR, that if they don't win could see them several points outside of the top 4 going into the Spring (last year 4th had 27 points at year end).
DTR/Solar - Both have three games left against similar competition. Toss up who ends up 2nd (DTR have tiebreaker).
FC Dallas - Can very much play the spoiler, and make things very very interesting if they can get points from either DTR or Solar. I've already said I was wrong once, but I'll say it again, "I completely underestimated this teams competitiveness with the "Top 5."
Solar Red - If they can get points from Feet, they should be right in the mix of the top three. Should get max points against Spirit/Rev, but Rev has played them tough before.
Mustangs/Rev - Stangs took a big leap towards staying up when they beat Rev, but I would still expect a tight race for 7th in the end.
Spirit - Will almost certainly go down at the end of the year.

D2 seems to be much more interesting than I thought it would be. I fully expected Solar Blue to walk through D2, but with a loss and tie in their first four games the race is up in the air.

FINISHING OUT D1 FALL 2009 Empty Re: FINISHING OUT D1 FALL 2009

Post by socrocks 22/10/09, 12:54 pm

Standings-wise, things have played out pretty much where I predicted going into the season. But within the story lies 2 big exceptions…Sting and FC Dallas. For some time, I've felt Sting is the best team in our age group. However, I really did expect they would've been tested more (Texans/Solar could still do so this fall). Six games in, no goals allowed is pretty impressive. Although I felt FC Dallas would fall in at about 6th in the standings, I didn't think they'd be competing so strongly. They have a chance to be more than 'spoilers'. If they could earn another win this fall, they're right in the hunt for Premier League.

My guess at how the fall will end:
Sting 24 - I think they win out (maybe a tie?)
Feet 14 - tough game vs. Solar Red for sure but homer picking Feet
Solar 14 - lose to Sting, tie FC Dallas, beat Rev
Texans 14 - lose to Sting, tie FC Dallas, beat Mustangs
Solar Red 13 - lose to Feet, beat Spirit, beat Rev
FC Dallas 11 - tie Texans, tie Solar
Mustangs 7 - lose to Texans, beat Spirit
Rev Premier 4 - lose to Solar, beat Spirit, lose to Solar Red
Spirit 0 - lose to Solar Red, very meaningful games vs. Rev/Mustangs, just don't think they get it done

My predicted finish to the fall would suggest that without a major collapse, our Grand Champion is probably already decided. But there are 5 legit contenders for 3 Premier League spots. As far as relegation goes, Spirit appears doomed but Mustangs and Rev should have quite the battle.
