Lake Highlands Refs Empty Lake Highlands Refs

Post by Triumph FC 17/10/12, 10:36 am

Got to love this. After the incident happened I run on to tend to my injured player and question the ref why it isnt a red card. He said because it wasn't a foul. You gave a penalty kick though, was my reply. That because it was a foul, was his answer! Priceless! So we lost our player through injury and yet the other team got to keep the offending player on the field on thats justice?

By Law he has no choice. Last defender, obvious goal-scoring opportunity. Red.

Laughing Not according to him, it wasnt a foul. Its a joke he didnt even give her a card at all!
The best part is we have it on video! We are certainly going to complain but of course it wont bring the injuried player back or the result. Injuries and luck like this have not lead to a great start to the season!

I hope your injured player can return soon. How is she doing?
That is an obvious red, but to not even give yellow is a shame, because this kind of intentional and dangerous knockdown should have consequences. I wish a consequence could be applied by the league based on video.

Agree it is a no-brainer red card.... last defender and all that stuff....bummer.
Hate to see it her go out... what was her injury? (shoulder?, collision with keeper?). Will she be back soon?

Thank you for your concern, she is being evaluated today. Its a shoulder injury
From my vantage point it wasnt the best view but our player had gotten away and the ball was on her right foot and the offending player came from behind and her left so I knew the Sting player could not have got the ball. Now watching the video its not the barge in the back (which would have been a red anyway) but extending the arm to make sure our player went down that I missed in real time. The ref who should have been able to see didnt think it was a foul. I have passed the evidence on to LH's and asked that they sit down with the ref and get his explaination on things

Wow. That is ridiculous. Straight red for sure! Even the Dutch couldn't argue that! Hope she gets better soon. I can't fathom how that was NOT addressed.

Lake Highlands Refs Empty Re: Lake Highlands Refs

Easy Red Card! The job of the Ref is to protect the players. By allowing that foul to be committed without a yellow or red means that the next excessive foul should not warrant a card. Also, you'll notice that there was no urgency to get to the spot of the foul.

Here is your Law:
12.37
(b) Denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity by an offense punishable by a free kick or a penalty
kick
In order for a player or substitute to be sent off for denying an "obvious goalscoring opportunity by an
offense punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick" (number 5 under the seven send-off offenses), four
elements must be present:
• Number of Defenders—not more than one defender between the foul and the goal, not counting the
defender who committed the foul
• Distance to goal—the closer the foul is to the goal, the more likely it is an obvious goalscoring opportunity
• Distance to ball—the attacker must have been close enough to the ball at the time of the foul to continue playing the ball
• Direction of play—the attacker must have been moving toward the goal at the time the foul was committed

12.3 CARELESS, RECKLESS, INVOLVING EXCESSIVE FORCE
"Careless" indicates that the player has not exercised due caution in making a play.

"Reckless" means that the player has made unnatural movements designed to intimidate an opponent or to gain an unfair advantage.

"Involving excessive force" means that the player has far exceeded the use of force necessary to make a fair play for the ball and has placed the opponent in considerable danger of bodily harm.

If the foul involved the use of excessive force, totally beyond the bounds of normal play, then the referee must send off the player for serious foul play or violent conduct, show the red card, and award the direct free kick to the opposing team.

Not sure the defender even made a play for the ball. Ref was also waaaay out of position here.... gotta count to three before he even shows up in the frame... let alone anywhere near the actual foul.... not good.

We can all analyze the situation after the fact with video evidence. I thought it was bad in real time but it is a lot worse on video. Yes I thought the ref was out of position but it was a quick breakaway in his defence. I was further away but it was a easy red card. On video its a blatant red card so I guess my only complaint is how he didn't even think it was a foulbut still gave the penalty. He tried to throw me out for complaining!

She is off to the specialist for a more through checkup with the possibilty of a fracture around the clavical joint, will know more later this afternoon

If that play didn't justify a card, what does? What more does the girl that committed the foul need to do?

That video depicts the actions of a lazy referee trying to avoid his own responsibilities.

wow... that's pretty bad. No room to play devil's advocate there, the video speaks for itself. My guess is he didn't want to concede that he was out of position and didn't see the entirety of the play. Although regardless of your angle, it's clear the path the defender takes and the result.

We had an identical play this weekend, about 5 yds outside the box. Thankfully our player was not hurt, but no card either.

I would be happy to contribute many viedo clips of different types of fouls in LH and PPL games. If put together in the right way, it could make a great training video for refs. Seeing a lot of these situations, with commentary from an experienced authority/supervisor, could be one of our most effective ways to improve recognition of dangerous plays and reduce the risk of injury from reckless and violent play. It is a hard job to see things accurately in real time- so why not use video to help with the training.

What are you saying? The ref was perfect!!!
And you had better not complain, or you will be thown out and fined.
In fact, posting it on You Tube will probably get your DD banned from the league, broken shoulder and all - how dare you disgrace LHGCL!

[The above is brought to you by the letter S - for Sarcasm!!!]

My best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Fully understand, I was attempting to add to the sarcastic humour as most of the time when anyone says anything about refs the response is to become one, which is absurd.
And it was an obvious clear foul that moe, larry or curly should have called, I would not think all 3 are not blind, but I could be wrong.

A little sunshine on a bad situation often cures the problem.

Videos with the Refs name may qualify as Sunshine.
