Pick up games Empty Pick up games

Post by Guest 31/12/12, 09:15 am

Posted this in the 06 forum and have had good interest so I thought we could add in the 05s.

Wanted to see what the interest was for pick up games this Spring. Plano/Allen/Richardson area.

3v3 or 4v4. Throw down some cones, pug goals and let them play... basketball courts and mini goals to play futsal, etc...

Just looking to get some fun, unstructured steet style play going on. Maybe pick a different city each week for it, different format each week.

Any thoughts??

Lets hear from you 05s. You dont have to bring your own team, just come out to play. We can mix and match em up. The point is to have fun playing.

Might also make it a rule, no club gear allowed. Ill supply the bibs.

Will shoot to change it up weekly.

I have plenty of various ages to get started. I will post once the first one is set.

If you would like to be on an email distribution list for them send me an email at KicksNorth06@ gmail.com

Otherwise watch the threads.

I hope you plan on being insured, or have a plan to protect yourself. It would be awful for something to happen and being held responsible! Definately something to think about!

Appreciate your concern Total.

Come at your own risk. These are friendly pick up games. The purpose is to have fun, touches on the ball, and play. No bullies or rough play will be permitted.

I dont really see a problem with this age group or those that have expressed an interest.

Pressure is on me now to line up the first one. Shaping up to be a fun gathering.

it works fine until club coaches find out and tell their players not to go. Clubs are BS!

The coaches can tell em whatever they want. If they listen to that coach and dont come so be it. More touches and game time for those that do show.

Hopefully that coach offers up some free skills sessions or organizes small sided games for that DD in place of what would be done at some pick up games. Doubtful.

Lighten up people...this is suppose to be for fun! As a parent, I will be there with my dd (duh) and if it becomes more than just fun and becomes physical or dangerous then I will take my dd and leave!

If my dd's coach is interested, then he/she will have more girls come and possibly come themselves!

Exactly.

I would like to add the intention is to mix and match, shake it up and let em have fun, but will also do some where you " bring your team" and see which team can keep the pitch.

Its gonna be fun. And from the emails I'm getting for the distribution list it should be a hit.

Now rain stay away and sun warm us up a bit.

I set up a pick up game this past weekend in Irving at a tennis ball court by our house. I ran around with them as a none official ref just to make sure they didn't check each other into the fence and that little physical contact was made. There was no out of bounds and there was no restart after a goal was scored just keep playing. We just used half of the court going from side line to side line. The girls could even dribble behind the goal during play. It worked out great we strongly encouraged them to use their skills and they did, it was awesome. I strongly suggest you guys use a futsal ball. The dads just sat on the hill behind the court and enjoyed the show. I don't think I would post an open invitation to play because you may get overwhelmed really quick with and you do run the risk of some a-hole wanting to sue you if an injury does occur. We recorded it and posted it on YouTube so our parents could enjoy it. We plan on playing again this Sunday, I can't wait.

Post by Gunner9 02/01/13, 05:59 pm

I think my friends and I played pickup hoops just about every day from age 8 or so to 18. The only time we didn't play was when we were in a gym somewhere playing. In all that time I can't remember anyone ever getting sued! Kinda sad we have to think about that these days...

Glad to see that other people are starting to use the 'pick-up" format to develop players. It has worked really well for the Fever United Futbol Club in its' Fever United 3 v 3 "pick-up" League on Sundays. We have been running the league since the beginning of December.

Androfan I wish you future success playing under this format. Good luck! cheers

PICK UP GAMES PART DUEX!!

The weather is looking up for this Saturday, high 50's and SUNNY!!

I have had more requests to be on the distribution list for the next event.

Looking at this Saturday @12:45-2:45pm. Woodland Park in Richardson. Plenty of space for small sided fields and/or futsal on the tennis courts.

More bibs were purchased today with the "profit" I turned last night.

Lets keep this one to 05s and 06s everyone.

Going to be fun.
