Freedom Cup Observations? Empty Freedom Cup Observations?

Post by 02SuburbanSoccerDad 04/02/13, 09:30 am

Anyone have any thoughts on the 02 Girls Freedom Cup from this weekend?

Congrats to the Division Champions

Gold:
SouthLakes Cosmos Blue(OK) over TulsaUnited Blitz 1-0

Silver:
Andromeda 02 Powers over TulsaUnited Blitz Red 1-0

Bronze:
Liverpool Rush 02 over TFC 02 Blue 1-0

Looks like our friends from OK aquitted themselves very well this weekend. Champions in the Gold in an all OK final and then runner up in the Silver. Well done.

Hard to tell from just the scores of course, but it appears that the 'right' teams were in the finals in the gold...at least for this weekend. The OK teams both won their groups, finishing ahead of Fever and Solar Red in group play. the most suprising score looks like that semifinal where Andromeda Red lost 7-0 to Blitz.

In the silver it looks like Andromeda breezed through the group games and they had the most points and won each game by comfortable scores. Then it appears they won really tight games in the semi's vs. LP Dalglish and the Final vs. TulsaUnited Red.

And in the bronze it looks like the team that could consistently put it in the net all weekend ended up on top (Really big shock there!!). Congrats to LP Rush winning an all liverpool semi and then winning another tight 1-0 final.

SILVER: I know Andromeda beat LP Dalglish in PK's (hence 1-0 score) after a scoreless tie through both overtimes. Wondering if the "1-0" score against TulsaUnited Blitz Red was also a PK shoot out.

Heard their GK is one of the best.

Speaking of GK's. The South Lakes GK is fantastic. She didn't give up a goal in the entire tournament and she made several great saves against us. One of her saves was on a shot that was hit hard and to her right, then the ball dipped to her left and she stuck her arm out and touched it outside the net. Watching that play I was in disbelief because all she stopped the ball with was her left arm. She was off balance and falling away from the ball and I thought for sure the speed of the ball would over power her arm and we had a goal...but nope. The ball ricochet off her arm like it hit the stinking goal post. Strong, strong keeper.

And you didn't record it for us to see on YouTube Cool

Sounds like a great save from "South Lakes 'Solo'"

No, the goal in the final was scored in the first half.

There were several goalies with outstanding play in the tournament last weekend. You singled out just one. In bracket play of 3 games, Liverpool Daglish' goalie allowed 0 goals (Silver), another OK team-Blitz (gold) allowed 0 goals and Liverpool Nicol's goalie allowed 0 goals in bracket play. All should be congratulated as shutouts are hard to come by in tournament play. I some play of all three and they had EXCELLENT stops.

Ofcourse this one particular GK was singled out because this particular play was amazing. No one was trying to steal the glory from any of the other keepers however when someone does an amazing job that is noticed by others PLEASE don't take the glory away from that moment. It was a great compliment to her, and she deserved it!

It was an incredible save he was referring to not the number of shutouts!

I singled her out because I saw her play this weekend and she has been great in previous matches. She keeps them in games. I did not see any of the other keepers you mentioned but, congratulations to them as well.

Agreed that great play should be singled out. have seen her play before and she had a great tournament this weekend. However, I believe it was mentioned about the number of goals not scored and she was not the only one. Congrats to her for a great play and having someone write about it. It was nice to see the level of play of the keepers listed in the earlier post. Thought it would be nice to brag on the great job N TX keepers did this weekend.
