I was also like you, knew nothing about soccer until my DD started playing. She was very lucky (I mean good) and got on the best team in the area with the best coach in the area. You can tell how good your coach is based on the English accent (make sure its not Australian or South African, if you are American you probably need some help figuring this out). But I digress, my DDs coach taught her all the soccer secrets and told them they were the best team ever. One day I was introduced to the soccer forums and I found out our coach was cheating on us with an even better team! He was teaching them the REAL soccer secrets. I did the right thing and approached the coach about this rumor, because I wanted my DD on the best team. He said that he did have another team but he promised they weren’t better and that he spent an equal amount of time with each team. He said that we were equally matched and that’s why we don’t play each other. I wasn’t buying that line so my DD tried out for the real best team in the area, because thats what she wanted. After she didn’t make it, because they keep a small roster and not because she wasn’t good enough, she went back to her old team and we accepted that the two teams must be equal. The End.

Disclaimer:
I used the pronoun ‘he' to describe the coach but that doesn’t mean he was a he.

If the teams are completely equal, then please put my DD on the team that consistently carries a smaller roster.

It wasn't bad, it was a nice story, I just didn't get it as it related to the topic. But if the origional topics post was removed then that might explain why it feels out of place

thats true. I think there are more parents who played soccer now than before. Still I think most are not fans of the game, just fans of watching their kids play the game. The tough part for coaches now though is that there are more parents who understand what good soccer looks like and are starting to demand more from the coaches. Hopefully we will come to a time when "how" you play becomes more of a factor than your wins and losses

well first it takes parents that can recognize and want to see good soocer. Most do not and really just want to win some games. Run hard, dribble fast and kick it

Why did they even bother letting you tryout if there was no room? don't fool yourself, if it was a really good player, they would have made room...
Its always better to play all the minutes in a lesser team, than half time in a better team.

I'm not sure playing 100% is always better. Just the 3+ hours of training a week with better players should be an advantage. There is nothing like game time though but is half a game with great competition better than a full game with lesser competition? In the end it depends on the player.

PS My story was a fairy tale mixed with a good dose of sarcasm.

There is always something to look for when watching my DD play. The wins/lossss not so much a factor at the moment. Last weekend she missed a penalty, I was happy to see how she reacted. She didn't cry or feel embarrassed, she played with more effort. She learned a good lesson. And I enjoy watching her develop.

I agree with you 100% Sweet. You summed it up perfectly with your last sentence,"You enjoy watching her develop". I feel the same with my dd. Sure, everyone wants to win and we are all guilty of getting lost in the heat of a good game, but our true enjoyment comes from seeing our dds grow and become better players learning from their mistakes and applying what their taught, win lose or draw.

Love it, and THAT is all based on the best coach for your daughter - not the "best coach" according to the parents... If mistakes are allowed, then they learn, if they are not and winning is the objective at all costs, then they learn nothing of making mistakes in a learning environment - better they learn those mistakes now then in a year or two when those mistakes WILL have an impact.
