Re: ODP - info please!
Sorry, not with you on that? Fall & Spring sessions 20Hrs+ for $250 = around $12/hr and summer camp is $550 so what the issue. Few out of town opportunities which are BTW all optional.....this is nothing compared to Select fees/ costs....smbush wrote:ODP = Open deep pockets

However, if your DD does all the events (the yearly fees, College Station, California and Alabama) and one parents travels with her you could expect to spend $2500+ exceeding some clubs select fees.

The comparison isn't exactly accurate. If your select team travels out of state for at least two tournaments and one parents travels with her you could expect to spend $4500. (You can figure $1000 per tournament with airfare for two, car, and hotel for the weekend)
Personally, if your daughter can compete at a ODP level then it's a great opportunity for her to see if she can step up to the next level.

Is it (ODP) less expensive than my DD's club for the year, yes, Sting, Texans, Solar, yes. There is the debate every year on low cost clubs and many say they spend less than $2500. So recap, 12 ODP practices, 3/4 ODP events $2000-$3000 per year. I'll use Feets' total cost this year with 3 out of town tournaments, all in fees less than $3000 (DD's meals and hotel included in dues) plus another $1500 in parent expenses $4500. 100+ practices a year, 18 LHGCL games, 8 total tournaments. IMO ODP is much more expensive relative to club costs.

Re: ODP - info please!
It is a little diffrerent but on the guys ODP side ( just player expenses)
Fall and spring dues $100 ea. -$200
Usully one regpional warm up $400
One local regional $25
Regional camp $1000 (Airfare, shuttle, food, lodging, no extra fees for being heldover 3 days for the regional pool)
Interegional Tournament $400 plus transportation. Includes tickets to all 3 College Cup games.
International trip $1000 . Everything included.
$3025 if you go all the way through. The Regional camp, Interegional and International trips are bargains for the experiences they provide. The interegionals have more college coaches per games than any showcase. It all comes to less than my major club dues before all the extras.
IMO
-At the state pool level it is a decent value IF you get a good coach and the quality does vary alot.
-Going to the Regional trial is a little pricey but it is a unique opportunity and worth it.
-If you get to the regional level it is alot of bang for your buck and great life and soccer experience for the player.

By the way, I never paid anywhere near your estimates. Maybe it has gone up in the last few years. I don't know.

I have no idea what Sting pays or doesn't pay for. I just know I probably can't afford it with thier travel schedule, lol... (Take a close look at my little avatar thing) Feet does however USUALLY cover the DD's meals and hotel and with a couple small fundraisers the fees were close to the $3,000 mark. I'm not knocking the ODP experince at all, I actually enjoy it and so does the DD. I'm just saying it's not as inexpensive as it seems if your DD does all the extras.

Re: ODP - info please!
Actual expenses (Except for the regional warm up) not estimates.Uncle Numanga wrote:Getting to the regional team is the only reason to do ODP. Once they're on that team, there are a lot of great experiences to be had. DD went to Spain for 10 days at a cost of $1000. I couldn't have booked a trip for her that would have had the amenities and the chance to see the country for that much. She also got the opportunity to meet kids from all over the US.

Re: ODP - info please!
1.you make the NTX state pool, then
2.if you make the NTX state team that goes to the Region III trials, then
3. if you make the Region III pool chosen from the 12 participating state associations, then
4. if you make the Region III team for both the Interegional tournament and the International trip.

That is excellent information (sincere thanks), and more in line with what I had heard and expected...Can you put rough numbers or a range with 1, 2, 3, and 4?

1. This is just trying out in the fall. First year, U12, there is a fee for what is usually a two or three Sundays tryout. Used to be about $25 . Not sure what it is now. All other age groups you just pay the $100 Fall fee which covers the tee and all fall sessions. After the fall they announce who made the pool. You then pay $100 for the spring sessions. Younger age groups will form multiple teams from this pool, older ages only one. There may be the opportunity for a local tournament ($25) or a trip ( usually about $400, depends on where). This team(s)is chosen by place on depth chart and availability. Cost max. $600
2. Getting chosen for the Regional trial roster. Being included in the above does not gaurantee being on the state team as this is referred to. The girls is cheaper than the guys as it is in OK and they go by bus. I think it is $600-$700.
3 Holdover is 45 to 50 players per age group that stay over after the Regional trial. This is the Region III pool and they work them to death . NTX takes cares of all travel changes. No extra cost.
4. From the Regional pool they will chose an 18 player Region III team. They play the Interegional against Regions I, II, and IV. Cost on boys side $400 and you are responsible for getting them to and from the nearest airport or you can deliver them to the hotel. One payoff is on the guys side there are as many as 70-80 coaches scouting games each of the first 2 days. Girls is the same I imagine.
They also do one International trip. This is the big payoff too. $1000 pays everything for one week abroad. My son did Gaudalahara and Costa Rica. They play the top teams in that region or country. Thia year they played the Costa Rica U17 national team. Plus they always include days for doing things in the host city.
Total cost max $2000. NTX also has needs based financial help.
