D1 verse D2 Empty D1 verse D2

Post by oldyeller 16/04/13, 02:40 pm

I dont think that there is a right or wrong answer to this but I would be interested to hear some opinions. My dd's team may make D1 or be a top team in D2. They may be 5-15 in D1 or 15-5 in D2 next year. I wonder which division and level of competition would best develop their abilities. Anyone?

If your team has worked out a good attack & goal scoring flow, you are probably better off in the higher division. If scoring for you is tough, has no flow, you ain't getting enough opportunities, probably better to be in lower group to work on that against defenses that let you build flow and confidence. D1 defense give you very little time and space to get your head up.

If you are the bottom team in D1, expect 1-6-12 not 5-15. In the 01 age group, the 6th place team doesn't have 5 wins - and the bottom 4 combined are 5-14-36. Personally, I think a year in D2 would be more productive. I believe now, nearing the end of "01s" year 2, the top of D2 have passed the bottom of D1.

Coming from someone on the bottom team of D1, I can tell you it's been pretty hard on the girls. I thought at the beginning that it would improve our play to be at the bottom...like playing up, so to speak. I was wrong. What has happened is that our girls play frantically rather than creatively, and skills I know they have (because I see it during practice) don't show up on the pitch because of it. That's not helping them develop anything other than a confidence problem. While our team isn't going to fall apart like many in that position would, I wouldn't want to be the bottom team in any division at this age group. Ten year olds just don't have the emotional tenacity to get beat every weekend.
