Is it too big?
Is it too big?
Can most coaches manage playing time with 7 on the bench?

what age group are you talking about. Makes a big difference. Since it's 18 max, I'm guessing a younger age, but still makes a difference.

Yes, in almost every case max roster size is too big. Especially if your son or daughter is 16, 17 or 18 of 18 or 18 - 22 of 22. If your child is in the top 14 or 15 you are probably ok otherwise look for another team where they will get plenty of PT.

So in your view it would negatively affect practice / development of the entire team (including players 1-14), not just players 15-18.

Re: Is it too big?
I guess it depends on the type of coach....from the coaches we have had it would actually impact 1-14 more than the other two as he would have to work with them more on development (drills) .which by definition would limit time for the others ..that is just my experience....then again the coach may not care about leaving the two behind and I would have issue with that alsoskillzbeatbrutes wrote:Cmon_Man wrote:Yep too many and not just games- can limit dd individual time at practices.

A Roster of 14-15 players
+More play time (not guaranteed).
+More personal attention at practice (not guaranteed).
+Greater flexibility for guest players and/or adding to the roster.
A Roster of 16-18 players
+Competition for play time keeps players focused during practice and giving their maximum effort in games. (not guaranteed).
+The team is better equipped to deal w/ absences due to injury, school sports, church camps and vacations.
+Slightly cheaper- tourneys etc.
