It makes very good business sense to advance a team that would have very little chance to qualify. As InaB mentioned, clubs with the LH league bye attracts players. Isn't there a lingering thread regarding Sting charging $2800? Dallas Texans, FCD, Solar Chelsea, Liverpool all charge a premium to join their clubs. It may be hideous to gazed upon, but look at it! Its the gritty underbelly of competitive soccer. It may not seem ethical, but it is savvy business.

Make business sense from a big club perspective? Yes
Help underprivileged kids on small clubs with no paid coach a fair chance to compete at a higher level? No
Improve integrity of league? No
Improve competition in league? Not immediately as would be the case if the slot was earned by a current qualified competitive team.
Make sense to paying parents? In general no but there are some cases to be made.
Make sense from a NTX perspective? No, benefits small percent of all NTX youth playing soccer.
Can we change it? No, big clubs drive the LH league.

This chatter goes on every year in multiple age groups. Live with it, chat about it, understand it, just don’t get upset about it.

I can see the perspective from both sides. Our team qualified through QT as an independent team, it was hard, rough, challenging and rewarding. I can't say we would not have considered a bye, had there been one available to us... While DTWhite may not improve the competitiveness of D2, the league does not have many instances where a lesser team get promoted, so the process will route out the lesser teams.
I would say to any independent team, QT is a fair competition and the best and most legitimate way in to LH.

Agree totally Bleed. It is as much the winning of position as the play to get there that makes it worthwhile. Think of a child, let's say you give your child a Gameboy. They play with it but they don't take care of it and it gets broken. Do they really care? No, they will just expect you to buy a replacement. If the child works and saves the money for that gameboy, they will take care of it because they earned it.

Post by dadof3 08/07/13, 02:15 pm

All true Bleed and Textiger...of course, this is why I had so many questions about why a club wouldn't take an LH spot if they possibly could at ANY time (revisit ECNL stuff if you want). Meja did with Galaxy last year in 00 D3...It has happened with an FCD 01 team in D2 last year I think, and some others through the years.

Here is my thought...why doesn't LH say that Yes, the club can have the bye, BUT they take it in the lowest division and push the next D2 or D3 team up into the next division unless they satisfy N+1. Therefore, you don't have a lower level team jumping into REALLY hot water, and it puts some focus on holding at least that number of girls together from the old squad in order to keep the spot in the higher division?

Too logical?

Dadof3, promoting the next team in succession is a very good suggestion, it's logical and reasonable and I think it's a viable solution. Of teams promoted other than by QT, it is indeed hot water, and I haven't seen many survive. It must be terribly demoralizing to a team in such a situation.

Hi Dad and Bleed, I wholeheartedly agree. There is nothing worse than being placed into a situation that is that lopsided. Dad I think your suggestion is the best one all the way around. Or if, there isn't another club team to promote within LH, go to the team with the strongest record rather than trying to load x number of teams into LH regardless of whether they can thrive or not. That is a guarantee that some of those players will not be on the team in a year, and that maybe the team won't even be able to come back. It is a bit like taking a child who does pretty well at miniature golf and putting him into a PGA tournament.

He's pretty dead on! White won't get the bye because white is no more! Who is next in line for the bye?

Is it confirmed that both Texans Red and Texans White have folded? If so, it would seem that Texans FW could get the bye.

Or, is this just a play on words that White is no more because players from White moved to Red. Hearing there may be 1 red player left.

I thought I had heard someone talk about a South team before. I guess that only leaves one team for the bye then. So Dallas is down to one girls 00 team now? Thats gotta hurt the Texans pocket book.

When did the White team fold...or not make?? Where are those girls going? I know there are still some teams looking, but were they hovering around 12-13?? Wow. That sucks. SG would welcome you out if traveling north would fit for you...a spot, maybe two left for a team that expects to compete in D2.

Not sure about timing but they did fold. Several players are frantically searching for the teams.  If you know teams seeking players please share and I will pass it on.  Thanks!

It seems Dtx FW is the only team they can give it to. Their other team is already in D2.
