I think the overriding philosophy of SDL is to make the league really just be a bunch of organized "friendlies" in the hope that by de-emphasizing scores/standing, coaches will be more willing to make decisions based on "development" (i.e. try out players in different positions, put weaker players in higher pressure game situations, work on a specific aspect of the game - passing/possession vs. dump-n-chase, playing out of the back instead of booting it high-and-wide at every chance, etc.) without worrying so much about scoreboard outcome.  Whether or not that is actually accomplished is a different story.

I'm open to posting a summary of SDL scores/records, but honestly, the '05's do not do a very good job of reporting SDL game scores to me.  The other age groups have done pretty well as a whole, so I'm not exactly sure why the '05's are different.

Maybe so, but SDL is sure proud of their product based on the rates they charge.
Agree, if it is "Friendly" like, why wouldn't they just axe the refs and let the coaches ref it.  That way they could save the cost of refs (which I hear are subject anyway) and lower the cost of the league.

Just an idea...
and they could rename the league to SFL (Super Friendly League)

and they could hand out snacks to all the kids after their games too

scratch
...and if you're not happy with it, don't sign up to play.  From where I'm standing, SDL doesn't exactly hold a monopoly on providing league play for NTX academy teams.
I'm with you, just having a lil fun!

ok gear switch...
I just want to say that if we started a human poll for best Brisket smoker in North Texas with an 05 DD i would have to place myself at the top of the heap! Not sure why that is important but just throwing it out there...

From a parent perspective SDL blows.

1) No scores posted
2) No schedules posted until AFTER the season is completed
3) Refs who threaten so end games if a parent sneezes
4) Fields that LITERALY stink
5) All for the highest cost in academy

Coaches could care less about all of those, which is why nothing changes...

But for parents it's a joke.

I see where they are trying to go or at least what they have tried to do, but all you have to do is read the "What's wrong with NTX Soccer?" string to know that it is way too late in the game to try to shield our DDs from results and standings.  Heck, Pre-K and K girls in REC leagues like to win games and even if they forget how many goals were scored, they will ask who won after the game.  So league play is for practice and development and then the tournaments they put on are when you apply it and actually play to win?  I guess I can see that, I just think it is too late.

A lot of the 05 teams that I see have coaches that will mix up lineups and move girls around to different positions for the purpose of development.  Not all of them do it, but many do.  There is still way too much of an emphasis on winning but that's the importance of finding a coach that will develop your DD and hopefully produce wins as a byproduct.

But just to make it known, I'm all for snacks.

I'm definitely interested in having this group do a better job of posting SDL scores.

BW, you should probably create a topic each week for the games you need and hopefully that will get people talking.

To be brutally honest, I've already got enough on my plate for not having an '05. That should really be up to an '05 parent to handle that.

Is it true that the size of your smoker is inversely proportional to the size of your sausage?
