It's a no-win situation for TD's.thatwasweird wrote:Kudos to U90C who called the League Challenge Cup tourney last night. Looks like the rain might not be as bad now, but not a lot of fun for anyone when it's cold, cloudy and windy. They are refunding 50% and letting teams apply the other 50% toward the reschedule after the 1st of the year.
Play in miserable conditions, and many people will be hissed off about having to play in miserable weather.
Wait 'till last minute to cancel and teams that had to travel get hissed off for having to spend money on transportation and hotel without getting to play.
Cancel early based on predicted weather so that teams traveling via car may be able to cancel hotel rooms without penalty, but then have the weather end up being good enough to play... people who wanted to play will be hissed off, and teams travelling by plane that can't get refunds on their airfare will be hissed off.
No matter what call the TD makes, someone is going to be hissed off, and will likely take to a public forum like this to vent their venom at the "idiot that made the wrong call..."

Wrong, you always play if safe enough to do so. Thats what people pay for, no one controls the weather. People are tired of money grabs due to weather, oh it rained thursday, fields are too wet, thanks for the money...bwgophers wrote:It's a no-win situation for TD's.thatwasweird wrote:Kudos to U90C who called the League Challenge Cup tourney last night. However, I guarantee that no matter what decisions are made about the tournaments this weekend, somewhere out there, someone is going to be hacked off about a TD making what they believe was a poor decision to play a tournament that shouldn't have been played due to weather/field conditions, or waiting too long to cancel a tournament that should have obviously been cancelled early due to the weather forecast.
Oh... and while I can't guarantee it, I am pretty certain that you will vehemently disagree with that person, and won't be "silent" about it.

Sounds like perfect London weather. There was a Champions League game last year with Zenit St. Petersburg, ( that there is Russia) and the temp at game time was -10F. Our kids are catered too with pristine fields and warm weather.
No reason to cancel unless lightning and debris flying through the air.

Oh I agree with you there. Just hate to see them push thru enough games so they don't have to give the money back and then cancelRunsLikeWind wrote:Sounds like perfect London weather. All I know is that I'm going to be cold and wet tonight no matter what happens with soccer, as I will be at the Cotton Bowl watching the Allen v Mesquite Horn playoff game.RunsLikeWind wrote:Sounds like perfect London weather. Pretty sure that game isn't getting cancelled unless there is lightning and debris...

I would hate to see the TD's try to push any games through. Our fields are already suffering from all the games played on them. Go out and play on them in the rain and see what damage comes from it!

Im glad it is tonight and not tomorrow's third game. That field will be a mess by the time the Allen Band gets off the field. I wish I was going but will have to listen to the radio broadcast. Out of town soccer tourney... Federico should be a weather man...
Due to the anticipated rain and subsequent outdoor tournament cancellations, we are leaving the registration for tomorrows mini tournament open to give more teams a chance to register.
The tournament will begin at 10am and end by 4pm, everyone's first games will be at 10am or at 10:40am. A detailed schedule will be available late this evening.

Well, that's one and it looks like the U90c League Challenge Cup has been "rescheduled for later date due to rain/sleet."SWGSB 52 wrote:DTSC Fall Festival has officially been cancelled due to field closures and travel concerns.
