College Soccer signings- Where do our Players rank? Empty College Soccer signings- Where do our Players rank?

Post by DrSoccer 06/02/14, 09:39 am

So yesterday was signing day, a pretty big day for all the girls who have been playing since they were 6 or 8. And for their parents as well who entrusted their dd's development to the elite club coaches in the area. Money was no object, you went to all the practices, extra skills, games, tournaments, etc...  So lets see how these clubs/coaches did. Lets grade them based on the end result. This is the list (best I could find) of the players who committed to play D1 soccer from NTX. First is the RPI, School, and # of players. Are our coaches the best at developing players in the US? Top 5? Top 10? What do you think? What are the top colleges trying to tell us about our NTX clubs/coaches? There are some players missing, Im pretty sure we had at least 1 going to ND? Feel free to add to the list...

RPI School Signings (1 unless otherwise)

15-Texas A&M

Interesting, but you also have to factor in the want of the girls / families to attend a school 1200 miles away. The one that pops out is only one girl to A&M. Down year? Lack of exposure to the "right" coaches?

The coaches and clubs did great to put that many girls on college soccer teams. We should not take for granted how many girls are moving on to play college soccer and having some of their college paid for.

Great job by the girls and coaches of NTX.  Very Happy

There frequently seems to be a concerted effort to show that the NTX soccer players just don't measure up.

I don't know that the data shown here necessarily shows anything.  Since there is no realistic future career in women's soccer, the "end all" really is impacted by the school itself, where the player wants to go to school, and what career path she's chosen.  One of the best pieces of advice I received when we went through the recruiting process was for my dd to make her decision based on the school itself.  Choose a school that she'd want to attend even if she didn't play soccer.  How it meets her needs and expectations far trumped the soccer team, since there's no guarantee how long she'd want to (or be able to) play.

So many factors play into the school selection, the school itself, the distance from home, the amount of the scholarship, the player's perceived place on the team and likelihood of getting playing time, available curriculum (i.e. nursing, criminal justice, etc.), parents alma mater and so on.

In my dd's case, she had a better offer (financially) from an east coast school, but the school she selected was closer to home and considered one of the top programs in the country in the major she had chosen.  She ended up with a great offer at a D1 program where she can come home occasionally, and we can go see her.

It's not like there is some big competition among NTX soccer players to get into the top soccer programs, and try as hard as they might, our players just couldn't get there.  Sure, to some players and their families that is a huge priority, but to many others, not so much.

If you're happy with the school your dd selected, then great, where other players in other areas were recruited to doesn't really matter.  Most of my dd's friends and teammates ended up very happy with their college selections.  What else really matters?

It just seems like so much effort goes into trying to convince us that everything sucks in NTX soccer.  Is it perfect?  Not by a long shot.

If even a small part of the effort that goes into complaining about the coaching, the style of play, the clubs, Lake Highlands, and North Texas Soccer, were focused on changing any of those things, the landscape would change.

I think the list speaks for itself. Once a yr our coaches get a report card from their peers (college coaches).

btw - you're saying our girls are turning down offers from Duke, ND, UCLA, Georgetown, North Carolina, Wake, and Stanford so they can stay close to home at Nicholls St, Belmont (ten), Kansas, S.Alabama (ala), Texas State, Mcneese, ACU, and UTEP? Really? that's funny...

I'm thinking that its easier to fool us into thinking that our girls are developing 'next level skills' than it is to fool the 'next level' coaches.

I didn't say that at all.  I said there are a lot of reasons why players choose different schools, and its not all because there were no options.  Where the balance lies, I don't know, and neither do you.

Many D2 and D3 programs are stronger than bottom tiered/bottom tiered conference D1 teams.  My DD did turn down a D1 offer because just not a good fit.  My DD's wish school offer couldn't happen because of a change in our home situation but Sewanee (D3) is a great school, strong team and she would have seen significant play time freshman year.  She was kind of drifting and seriously considered going to Ole Miss and playing sorority soccer.  A coach saw her when she was having an incredible tournament and made her an offer.  This was a coach she had contacted because she saw he was going to be at the tournament, but the school wasn't even on our radar. After visiting UCO, my DD knew she had found THE SCHOOL with her major and a coach/team she felt immediate chemistry with.  Her keeper coach told her it might happen this way, out of the blue and it did.   The girls on our team are going D2 and D3 but I wouldn't consider MIT exactly a safety school?  Our team has girls going to University of Central Oklahoma (D2), University of Western Alabama (D2), St. Mary's in SA (D2), MIT (D3) and Schreiner (D3).  Schreiner's team struggles but a solid school and know several great girls on that team who are getting plenty of play time.

No one has to justify their selection of colleges, this post was about the coaching. I assume that everyone took the best offer/academic fit for their kids, and anyone who got $ to play college soccer should be proud of the accomplishments. It seems like a good time to grade the coaching the top 100 players received over the last 8+yrs. Remember many of these kids joined the club academies at 8 or so, right? These players are now a reflection of their teachers efforts. Pass/Fail? A-B-C-D?
