2014 Texas Girls Coaches Association Soccer Poll-March 3rd
2014 Texas Girls Coaches Association Soccer Poll-March 3rd
1. Alamo Heights (20-0-0)
2. Byron Nelson (14-2-3)
3. Birdville (17-1-1)
4. Denton Guyer (11-2-2)
5. Burleson Centennial (14-1-0)
6. Georgetown (12-2-2)
7. Dallas Highland Park (11-2-1)
8. Frisco Wakeland (13-2-1)
9. Kingwood Park (14-2-1)
10. Pflugerville Connally (17-1-1)
Class 5A
1. Southlake Carroll (15-0-1)
2. Plano West (14-1-1)
3. Austin Westlake (14-1-2)
4. Klein (12-1-1)
5. Mansfield (15-0-1)
6. Kingwood (14-1-1)
7. San Antonio Reagan (17-1-0)
8. McKinney Boyd (13-2-1)
9. Flower Mound Marcus (10-2-4)
10. El Paso Franklin (17-0-0)
Any thoughts? Interesting that in Class 4A, 3 of top 4 teams come from District 11-4A. 4 of the top 5 come out of Region 1. Tough district and region to be playing in, especially once playoffs start.

Strength of schedule should be factored in both polls and individual district, region. and all state honors. In 2013 the 1st team awards were spot on with the exception of Coppell's GK Arias. Coach seems to be able to get his players more recognition than they earned on the field. The 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mention are more subjective and the coaching panel want state wide representation versus recognizing the best players. There are always exceptions to that rule. My daughter has been a varsity starter for 3 years so I have noticed trends of teams and players getting under recognized in favor perennial programs. I would view Hebron, Sachse, and Grapevine as worthy top ten teams actually as talented as Marcus and Boyd. Plano West should remain #1 until they are beaten in the playoffs. Strength of schedule between them and Southlake is no contest.

I would have to agree with you. Hebron most definitely should be in this list and given how wide open this year's run will be...have as good a shot at any team, especially given their stingy defense. Sachse may have the most powerful offensive attack in 5A...and no one will want to run into Grapevine in the playoffs. I would not die of shock if any one of these three make it to the Final 4.

How about next year, when Plano West, Boyd, Marcus, Hebron, and Allen (who just beat Plano West last week), are all in the beast that will be district 6-6A?
One of those teams won't even make the playoffs next year...

Not to mention Flower Mound...who will be another one of those "you don't want to play them" teams in this year's tournament. It is clearly best soccer district in state next year.

At least for the purpose of soccer Flower Mound should be moved out of 6 6A (9 teams) and into 7 6A (7 teams). No good reason to leave SLC with only Coppell and Maybe Colleyville Heritage to get in the way of their fun.
