Competitive sports for both boys and girls should be about challenging oneself and having fun. The pay-off happens as our kids use the life lessons they learn playing soccer - perseverance, teamwork, dedication, overcoming adversity, etc.
Looks like those girls who make it to the highest levels of female soccer will still make less money then their counterparts who go into business, medicine, law, etc.

Whoa Nellie slow your roll. Women's soccer is on life support, why you think the players in that situation would command anywhere near men's soccer money is ridiculous...

I agree completely . . . yet I have seen parents going ballistic on their kids because of how they are playing in a game. It almost is as though some parents believe that women's soccer has some huge payday at some point . . . why else would they act that way??

I hope no parent dreams of riches through sports for their daughters because the money is just not there for women's sports. I always simply wanted my DD to have fun memories of playing sports. I can't remember any wins or losses from my youth but I can remember the trips to games with my friends. I certainly didn't make a killing off of my athletic abilities, doubt most DD's will either. However it's still a worthwhile endeavor.

As for the money, it will become equal pay to the men when the sport brings in equal money. As it should be.

The Gatorade endorsement is worth 100K annually, Her book income etc.. She has a net worth of 2.5 M. So while the salary isn't there, it certainly does provide a platform to become famous and popular. The savvy players will turn that popularity and notoriety in to earnings.

Wonder how long that will last her with her rapist felon husband in the picture...

I never understand why parents want there kids to do soccer. Lots of injuries and lots of crazy parents.
The thing that I want my DD to become is a great leader and team player. That's what she needs to get from this sport. The skills she learns are just tools to be on the team. She can take the leadership with her in the future and apply it to her job, family and social life.
I would never allow her on a team with a bunch of individuals that are ranked high! If your on a team like that its like putting your $$ up in flames. Even worse you are hurting your DD!
Here is a great article that will bring us all to reality. If you are a parent that forces your DD in a direction. This will put your opinion in perspective!
