The point is to play the game as much as possible. The less subs the better, allows for player movement all over the field and max playing time.
Start more teams to keep the roster size down.

1 squad had 1 sub, the other had 4 subs. Way more playing time with 1 sub, and allowed for players to play basically all positions during the game and not completely disrupt continuity that was built. 2 subs would have allowed for stronger legs by the end of the tourney. Still finished strong though,

If the format has even numbers, the math becomes too confusing for me so I slice one girl in half with a samurai sword.
