Question about Scholarship and dues

Inquiring about how different clubs handle scholarships. Also If the coach has a DD on team or particpates in the club (different team from coach) do they pay for the DD or is it known to have them comped?

Scholarships are all over the board. Really depends on the situation and what you can negotiate. For the most part they are based on a need:
. Financial need of the player
. Need of the coach to have the player on the team

Sometimes the former and sometimes the latter or a combination of both.

For the two club teams my DD was on, the scholarships DID NOT COME from the club.  The cost of carrying the player was divided between the paying parents on the team.  One club team had 4 scholarshipped girls.  Call me petty but 2 of the families with scholarshipped DD's were able to afford things that our family had to forego.  I am all for carrying a family on the team through a rough period but I am not making sacrifices so someone else's kid can get for free what I am paying for my child to have and then listen to the mom talk about her new hardwood floors and jump in her new SUV that gets 11 miles to the gallon.

As with so much of club soccer, scholarships are not always fair or handled in a manner that benefits anyone but the club.

It's also not uncommon that the club will give a coach one scholarship to use at his discretion, but if he wants to give any others, they come out of HIS paycheck.

The two big clubs we've played for the scholarships were not paid for by the team, either the club covered it or the coach took reduced pay to cover it.

ETA : coach's kid - didn't have one on our team, but the coaches had kids who played on other teams they coached and they were not free. They got a small (10% ish) discount and the fees were deducted from their pay so they didn't have to pay up front.

The club my dd plays for is like Copa44. The coach can allocate the full amount to 1 player or he can divide it up over several players. I like that our coach divides it up between several players. This requires the families to have buy in and commitment to the team.

The clubs do not usually "pay" for the scholarship unless a specified roster size is met, i.e., the roster is overloaded with a couple of payers who won't play. Watch out for the "Acme 01 girls midwest south has 1 or 2 openings" posts - this could be you.

Also some teams will collect "team dues" to pay for a scholarship player.

Ditto to Scalper. Any scholarship should be absorbed by club and coach and NOT by the other parents. The fields are still being used, coach still coaches, tourney/seasons still scheduled...so what does it cost the club/coach to have a player in real need on scholarship? Nothing. But to put it on the rest of the families when there is not a process to determine the real need of it? BS
