No discount at all, even though you aren't using the fields, refs, offices, scheduling, etc. I am beginning to hate that association. Part of the reason for going the academy route was because of how inept they are at scheduling and handling a season. Now I'm paying for that BS still.
North Texas is trying to protect their REC Associations, by making sure they still get their money for each player. It is a North Texas Policy. Just consider it a lil Socialism in your great red stare. :D
A few corrections however:
-Ref fees are never included in any League. So that does not apply
-Why would you ever use an Office??
-Why would your REC Association do scheduling for you?
-As for fields, These fees (over $1000 per team) will get you practice fields, if you ask (When registering as a Select Team). Most of the big clubs do not ask and instead, do their own thing
I know your point is that it seems as if they are getting money for nothing, but without that money, many of the REC Associations would be in trouble. I have no problem supporting REC Soccer with part of my Select Fee. In fact, it almost makes a Blue Stater like myself, smile :D
If north Texas really wanted to protect its rec leagues It should have stood its ground when it comes to allowing kids to play in multiple academy games a weekend. At one time it wouldn't allow kids to play in more than one game a weekend. They instead caved to the pressure of the coaches. North Texas and US club only care about the money they can bring in and it doesn't care at what cost to the kids health. You cant let the inmates run the asylum.
There are options because the parents (customers) want them. 20 years ago, a U7-U10 player practiced on Tuesday & Thursday nights and played an outdoor rec association game on Saturday.
Now, a U7-U10 player can have rec league games, multiple academy league games, indoor games, futsal games, position-specific personal training, and speed/agility training ALL IN THE SAME WEEK. More and more parents want these varied opportunities or they would not exist in the marketplace. Parents have to decide when enough is enough.

The player gets some extra touches in a fun environment with minimal pressure, and the parents don't feel like we're getting completely ripped off. If more people did this, there would be a lot less dual rostering between academy teams.
Your kidding right? This wouldn't cure a thing if anything it would make it worse. Parents and coaches would still be playing their DD on multiple teams on Saudays. Coaches and Parents cant help themselves. North Texas and US club dont have the stones to stand up for the kids..

Let's imagine if NTSSA and US Club Soccer linked up all of their registration software and player rosters, then agreed to mandate that players were limited to 1 game per week, what would happen?
Coaches would take their teams to unsanctioned indoor soccer centers or the clubs with access to fields would organize an unsanctioned league or scrimmages.

Parents deciding when enough is enough.. HAHA I talked to a parent last week who let her DD play in 2 to 3 games every Sunday last season and thought it was great for her.. Both coaches told her that it would help prepare her for select and then eventually ECNL. Once the 4 letters were spoken {ECNL} that mom decided to do what ever her DD coach told her..

I respectfully disagree. NTSSA and US club HAVE and HAD the rules in place for a reason but couldn't stand the pressure from the coaches. Burn out is way more prevalent because of how hard the kids are pushed at such a young age.

Agreed, burn out is a huge factor, but it starts with parents and coaches. The demand sets the supply. If NTSSA and US Club Soccer limited playing time, parents and coaches would find alternatives.

Not to mention you still have to register every kid with North Texas the good news is you can find one Local Association (Nicole James at CFB I hear does a great job!) and register your whole team thru that one registrar at a reduced/negotiated cost! Imagine that...
So, I just came across this thread as I'm "surfing" our '04 news. The $800 LHGCL tournament fee is built into the actual team fees for U-11 Select soccer.. not to panic anyone, but it's not just $900 for a fall season. It's more like ~$2,800 to ~$3,200, depending on the club, for the year and $500 for the uniform "kit". It all has to be paid up front.. .kiddin', most clubs offer payment plans. Good news, it's for 2 seasons and that does include the Referee fees
Regarding GLASA fees in particular.... I am 99% positive you don't have to pay the $65 to register for your home association, even if you are playing just academy or select. I recall there was one particular tournament our club was not "affiliated" with and the players had to register with their home association. I believe that fee was $10.
feel free to PM with questions about Select. Having just gone through it and our team making D1, lot of fresh information to be had, if you'd like.
not only do you have to pay your home association the fee's, they can control which days you practice and play your academy games silly don't piss them off lol
Amen Brother!
