If I counted correctly when reviewing schedule yesterday, we have 13 games in D3 before the break, playing some teams twice this fall. Is this normal and will that mean the spring season will be shortened?

Correct- last year, U15 teams had only 5 or 6 games in the spring and did not start until after Spring Break.

LH Schedules? Empty weeknight games

Post by scr460 03/09/14, 06:05 pm

I must be the only one who is frustrated that there are so many weeknight games.  I hope someone can explain the reasoning for this.

I know that it has been this way for years for most age groups, I can't really believe that it is a good idea. League play is critically important for the success of the team over the course of the year.  How can anyone think that the girls can play anywhere near their best after a long day at school.

Last week picked up DD from school after she had her second day of high school soccer tryouts (full of sprints and scrimmaging), ran by the house and essentially drove straight to the field for the first league game of the year.  Looks like most team have high percentage of their games during the week (more than one or two).  Yes, I realize it fully effects both teams, but it seem completely unnecessary.

I have noticed for years that the UTD and Railroad fields are not full on a Saturday or Sunday. Is it a shortage of referees?

DD's teams have had 4 or 5 games (more than half a spring or fall season) over a time period of two weeks multiple seasons.  Is it really that necessary to play games on a weeknight at 8:00 pm when the temperatures are in the 30's or 40's when the girls are in middle school?

No, no, please go on; you haven't even touched upon the the drainage at Moss Park and Chinn Chapel, or parking at UTD once upon a time.

Thanks for the reminder:roll: I would love to meet the brilliant aggie engineer that came up with the new parking lots at UTD. One way in, one way out, games seldom staggered.

I am not trying to be a contrarian, just offering up a different perspective. With my DD being involved in multiple activities, the weeknight and Sunday LHGCL games have been just what we need to avoid conflicts. If all of our games were on Saturday we would have major problems and unfortunately I think soccer would end up losing out to other things.

I can say that last year, it was very difficult getting our team players to practice and games last year. We had girls out for volleyball, basketball, soccer, track, and other things. I can only imagine what it will be like at the high school level this year. I agree that we had a number of girls out on Saturday due to school events - both athletic and scholastic.

I am glad someone brought this up for not other reason than to vent because we all know there is absolutly nothing we can do about it. What bothers me most is we travel anywhere from 1hour to 1hour and 15min to get to games and we have 5, 6:30pm games. My daughter along with several others do not normally get out of school until after 4pm. I just can not justify getting her from school early that many times in 2 months. Maybe if she had 8th period athletics but she does not. Then not to mention how late you get home from the 8pm games, it will be 11pm or 1130pm for some of the girls on our team. OK, thank you... I feel a little better. Very Happy Very Happy
