My DD tore her right calf muscle in a collision on the field Wednesday. The doctor doesn't think it is ruptured but we need to get an MRI to see just how bad it is. She is concerned about how much time she is going to lose.

No telling until the MRI, mine was severerly pulled, not torn and i was in a boot about 6 weeks. After that no telling, dr did stress that the calf is one prone to reinjury once you have done it once. Dont rush the recovery, proper rehab.

I have personally experienced a torn calf muscle. Depends on how severe it is. Mine turned the bottom of my foot black from the blood pooling. I could walk normally after about 3 months. She's young, she may heal faster.

I've done that before and it was a relatively minor strain. Couldnt walk on it for a week, and it was about a month before I was able to get back to light activity.

Thanks everyone. I think the bad part of the night was that she kept playing for the last 3-4 minutes of the game without telling someone it was hurting really bad.

I am keeping her calf wrapped and she is using crutches. I am hoping that she will have a speedy recovery.

Wow, she is a trooper.

I literally keeled over on the side of a hill in North Dakota. Drove home 2 days with my leg propped up, swollen 3 times its normal size, straight to emergency room when we got to Allen. Had to check me for a clot.

The pain was... Indescribable.

Sorry to hear about InaB, that is terrible.

I've seen gruesome injuries & swelling where the doc said was 90% sure of tear and the MRI disagreed.

Flips is right, don't rush back it if the injury is (by chance) isn't as serious as suspected!

Torn Calf muscle Empty Re: Torn Calf muscle

Post by Tiki-taka 20/09/14, 04:41 pm

I have torn both my left and right calf ligaments,  the first one was a partial tear, the emergency doctor put my lower leg in a boot for about three months.   Found out by tearing my second one that the boot is not a good remedy.  The second one, I was referred to an Arositi  (SP?) treatment.  (OBTW: arositi doctors should be hired for Guantonomo Bay interrogations, they would get anyone to talk!)  The treatment was awesome and had me back on my leg full weight jogging in a month.  The problem with the boot is that the leg heals in an immobile position, thus the ligament may not be as pliable/flexible after healing.   But I'm not a doctor, although I am sleeping in a Comfort Inn this weekend! Sorry to hear about your daughter, I am a huge fan of hers.   Go See Dr. Tolar in Keller.

The second was such a large tear, I heard the Pop of the ligament, thought I had been shot,  was on the ground and could not get up.

Stretching after a brief warm up is so important, and watch out for cooling down and then ramping right back up, folks with historically tight muscles have to keep loose and stretching between heavy activity.   (as in subbed out and in) Learned this the hard way.

Torn Calf muscle Empty Re: Torn Calf muscle

Post by twotone 21/09/14, 01:24 am

tore my calf before. PLEASE DON'T WRAP IT. that's about the worst thing you can do for a calf tear. the muscle is already compartmentalized and you are putting extra pressure on it with the wrap. you can ice when it swells or to prevent swelling, but if you wrap it the muscle will become even more inflamed from the extra pressure.

i was in a boot for 1 month and then had 2 months of rehab after that. opted for the non-surgical way. agree on the boot thing about it healing is an immobile position. but tearing a calf makes you not want to move the entire lower leg and foot it hurts so bad.

Not sure about Sting Bruno, but Gunners did have a keeper injury...collarbone. Needed an ambulance. She was a trooper about it. Shame to see. Very glad not head or neck. Waiting to hear about an FWFC injury as well (wrist). Game was really not rough or chippy. Just bad luck.

Thanks Tiki we will definitely check out Dr. Tolar. Hi Seven, we didn't go to the game today and I haven't heard from anyone that we had an injury. However, I did hear about the Gunner's injury. I am keeping prayers going for her.

My dd told me that the Bruno keeper may have gotten a concussion. That would be horrible luck if the keepers for both his team were out.

I saw a couple games yesterday. Just missed the Gunners GK going down, but was there for the ambulance. They had to call another one on a far field, supposedly a sever concussion or head/neck injury. Didn't see the FWFC wrist injury but the trainers seemed to be very busy yesterday at Railroad. I kept seeing the cart going back & forth to several fields.
