***This is late, but I would have picked them too -- but don't count it, since I was late*** I would also add that very impressive for Celtic to keep it to a minimum vs. Owen. Coach McCallum has their team playing better & better each week it seems.

TGTBK:  PPL will allow for a reschedule request to be submitted to the league, @ $190 - and will work with you.  But it needs to be a formal request.  Have your manager/coach reach out to Tiffany Powell. It also has to be done 48 hours in advance to the game - which at this point, might be tough.

Our game vs McK Eclipse set for tomorrow is being moved and they are looking at options and openings.  In a perfect work, you need to find a team with a game you can swap with.  But have them reach out and see what can be done.  It is always such a shame to forfiet any games.

Good luck..

Let me guess?  The lovely Middle School Volleyball games...where the schools force the kids to play for free, while the parents shell out money for the boys/girls to play competitive sports.

I believe that is it. I think part of the problem, at least from our family personal experience, is that this is the first year for 02s to experience the conflict- and it wasn't necessarily on our radar. Our daughter made the team (tryouts were mandatory and she was not about to not try- she is really enjoying it) but we did not know what the schedule would be.

Fortunately she is on a team where most V-ball players have their games on non-practice/non-game nights (Mon). Other teams are not as fortunate and may have teams made up of players in school districts where Thursday nights are the v-ball game nights.

PPL should be aware of that. Seems like there should be better coordination between teams and the league, so they don't schedule teams on nights where majority of the girls from those teams have v-ball. Again, because this is a "mandatory" school thing and grades depend on it. If nothing else, when they are registering PPL teams, have them check a box on which weekday night is not doable.

I know it is a little extra work scheduling, but not impossible. Certainly easier ahead of time than after schedules come out.

One additional option (in conjunction with trying to schedule ahead of time) may be to build in an extra weekend into the schedule just for teams who are conflicted on a weekday. And teams understand they may have to even play two games that same day on Saturday, which is better than forfeiting.

Re the scheduling issue above, I note the PPL 2 has 3 games scheduled on one Thursday, one game on a Tuesday, and one game on two Sundays (to accomodate the Wichita Falls team who has to travel a lot).

There are so few games non-Saturday, that it seems it would be an easy matter ahead of scheduling to just slot them on days according to their preference. (e.g., assuming only those three days are choices, have each team rank their preference for days between Sun, Tues, Thurs.)

You know - it's tough and I see it from both sides.  If Plano had to work around all these MS Athletics schedules, I'm not sure we would ever get the season done - however, if teams were asked who COULD play on weekdays and which nights, there would be a way to only schedule those teams.  For example, we can play Tues/Thurs.  PLano doesn't do Mon/Fri games.  So all that's left are Tues-Thurs.  Thurs seem by far the toughest for teams - but my girls all have their long session until 5:30/6:00 on those nights.  AND I have 1 player unavailable ANY thurs - training or games due to a GRADE for a VB game!! A greade which is attendance based is not a grade, is it? You would think Club soccer, year round would exempt these kids from athletics - but I digress.

Or, perhaps as LH and Classic do, they start in mid/late August - while Plano goes after their Labor Day tourney.  If we started in Aug and only had (or majority) weekend games, that might be an potion at this age group moving forward.  Again - I see it from both sides.

In the end, it's great for the girls to play MS Athletics, even though it impacts all of this.  They play soccer year round and I am "happy" to work around MS - In the end, as it should be with soccer, it is about the kids.  Is it a pain - sure.  But it will pass and more conflicts will arise and we will all work through those as well.  Wait until MS Soccer comes up - or worse - they start getting hurt during MS Athletics and can't play for their club teams..  We've already had one player who's out for 3-4 weeks with injury sustained during athletics..

Good luck this weekend everyone.

Perhaps we should prioritize this league over our other commitments? Schedule conflicts do not exist in our family, because this league comes first. Period.

That's an awesome idea, in theory! Smile

unfortunately, in the real world, prioritizing doesn't mean no conflicts.   In fact, prioritizing is a necessity exactly BECAUSE of conflicts.   Suggesting that all people prioritize soccer is pretty naiive.  There are a thousand different situations for people.

Teams are trying to limit the fallout (forfeits) from their priority choices.

For example, saying our daughters are not going to play volleyball because it would conflict with one soccer game out of the year would be foolish, in my opinion. Therefore, the next step is to come up with a system that can better accomodate.

It's not a theory or an idea. It's a way of life. Conflicts no longer exist once you have prioritized your commitments. If soccer = 1, there are never conflicts. We play soccer. If that means we miss volleyball, so be it. If that means we get kicked off the team, so be it. Soccer should always be top priority IMO.

I didn't say your own heirarchy of priorities is a theory. I said that the idea that everyone could/would have such a priority sounds great in theory.

Big difference. In the real world, it doesn't work that way. I consider myself a reasonable and tolerant person, and I could not disagree more with your setting soccer as the ultimate priority. I'm sure there are a lot of soccer-loving even soccer-OBSESSED folks who would agree with me.

I think that kids should play more than one sport. Not only do others say it makes them better overall, but also shows them other options. If they have always played soccer, basketball, etc and never tried something else, they actually might find another 'love'. It also gets them the opportunity to meet additional players/friends. Those that like soccer, might not like volleyball/basketball/track and vice versa.

My issue stems with the schools. (A) it shouldn't be mandatory and (B) since games and practices occur after school, grades should not be included on whether or not they show up. We have several that skip soccer practice to go to their VBall practice/games. So be it; at least they are staying active and out of trouble. We haven't had a THU night game yet, so we'll see what happens.

Along with that, with 6 teams in the 02 PPL D2, we'll see how many girls show up to their games.

As far as it relates to PYSA being more accommodating, in talking to one of the Managers that has a PPL team, they only looked at Plano schools (which I think play on MON's) and no others. My thoughts, they shouldn't look at any school districts, like LH does. LH says they'll play TUE-THU and don't look at any school districts/cities.

I'm not aware of any schools requiring our children to enroll in "Athletics". They have the option of Athletics or Physical Education. Athletics is for kids that want to participate in school sports, PE is for those who don't. In my DD's school, for each Semester you enroll in Athletics you must participate in 1 sport. Since Middle School sports are typically a feeder program for High School sports, I don't blame them for making the games mandatory - especially since enrolling in Athletics is optional. Why shouldn't Middle School Volleyball or Basketball, or any other sport be just as important as Club soccer.

Regarding the PYSA scheduling, I don't like week night games either, but we deal with it. I guess another good option would be if PYSA would only schedule weeknight games for teams below Middle School age. Middle school kids seem to have the most schedule conflicts.
