00 D2 poll for 9/27

Have to break up the poll...

SG 1:0 Mustangs. Pretty fair match. Played as both do, hard and pretty fast. Not as pretty as the SWW game Wednesday, but it is what it is...

One CRAZY incident to note though. Team warming up right behind Bussey goal with 10 left put a ball on the back side of the penalty box, then ran out after it from the back post towards the spot. She then realized that SG attacking that goal and runs off. SG forward slots ball from opposite side of box (perhaps 10-12 yards out-about a step or two wide of the 6 yard box for goal #2...linesman calls ref over and ref waives off goal...

I have never seen a ref waive a goal off for that. Then the entire team (warming up) spreads out behind the same goal and starts volleying the ball back and forth to each other??? Ref said NOTHING to them like, MOVE?!? Had that been the winner, more controversial, but wow!

I'm confused... Was the loose ball on the ball-in-play side or away from the play? Did the lineman try to stop play prior to the score or after?

Having see this game today, I will say that Mustangs played a far better game. Gold gets the result, but not indicative of possession game and run of play. My 4 cents.

Hard to be the better team and lose..... Just my 3 cents . And in fact this was a 2-0 game . Unfortunately for the buss no points are earned for "playing a better game"

I have seen plenty of games when dd's team was lucky to get the win and the other way around.  I don't know if Mustangs were the better team today, but the game could have gone either and probably should've been a tie. These two teams couldn't play more different styles of soccer, hard to compare.

Both keepers were great today and both teams had opportunities to score. SG's goal came on a miscue between the defense and keeper.  

The goal that was called back was not a goal so the game was 1-0. A rogue ball on the field is one thing, but a rogue ball that keeps a keepers from getting to the game ball is something else. Shame on the sting team warming up behind the goal and interfering with play. I too was shocked that no ref or field Marshall asked them to move.

We'll u must have seen a different game and scenario with the goal in question the keeper never acknowledged said ball rolling on the field. She was focused on the playat hand and made every attempt to save the goal it was just a good shot she could not get to. Now the idea of hard earned goals being waived off for activity behind the net is crazy . in fact in that case there should never be another goal moving forward . We all know there is always something going on behind the net. There is enough blown calls as it is do we realty need to add this into it.

It's not about something going on behind the net, that does happen all the time. It's about the ball and girl running onto the field. We tell our girls all the time to be courteous and aware of the games going on during warm ups.

Believe me, the keeper was well aware of the extra ball on the field and pled her case immediately to the ref. I was shocked the ref called it back, but obviously the ref and linesman felt that was warranted. It was a nice shot, but again the ref and linesman felt there was some interference.

Take your win, be happy. It was a well played game by both teams and could have gone either way.

Beast-I hear you. That is why I said the game was pretty even. I did not think SG played well in the first half and I was surprised (pleasantly) that we got the goal. However, I disagree w BOTN. It wasn't like SG was completely inferior and just hanging on the entire game while Bussey relentlessly attacked us all day. It was pretty even. In my estimate, the teams generated about the same number of chances (both drew iron on free kicks) Both GKs played well. Both teams kept each other out for the most part...hence 1 goal. SG scored a W against a good team.

SOB is right, the stat that matters at the end of it is the w/l/t. The goal is (and has been) to win D2...not style points or friends. SG will be happy if the rest of the league walks off the pitch wondering how they lost too. We have a tough game tomorrow against Aztecs. Hopefully we figure out a way to get the win...we will take a defensive miscue if you want to give it...or a 12 pass buildup...or a free kick...or...
