Major club in NTX has 20 U11 teams, 1 is in D1 of Lake Highlands, 5 in Plano D1, and 1 in Plano D2. Where do the other 13 play? If I counted correctly the 7 teams have 21 wins combined so far, so that's a 3 win average per team from a club that arguably has the most money / resources in NTX. What's up? Is it coaching, leadership, costs?
It is simple math.
They all generate approximately the same amount of revenue for the club and coaches.
The LH D1 team is no more valuable to the club financially than a PPL D2 team.

Re: underachieving?
I mean - maybe the club in question chooses to let coaches be autonomous, and they don't sanction or encourage the creation of "super-teams"? Perhaps they encourage the teams to keep the rec "cores" together for the enjoyment factor/lower pressure until they get older? Some clubs obviously go for the super-team approach, and it works for them. They may use that as a carrot for the individual player (or parents) as encouragment to step-up their game - either to make the super-team or to keep from losing their spot. Some kids thrive on that, others end up developing less due to the constant pressure. Some shut down completely. It really depends on the kid and what they need.
One approach demands perfection to survive in the system - which can work as a major motivational tool, but can backfire in a loss of love for the game. The other allows mistakes for the sake of development, reduced stress and/or social support systems - but can backfire in a less than desireable Win/Loss record.
Who knows. It all gets blown apart when ECNL starts anyway.

Ahh, that makes sense the site I had looked at lumped them together. I just went to the new one and it shows the separation. So that's half my question ;-)

You didn't have a question. Your intent was to call out a clubs crappy performance. The real answer is "if someone is willing to pay for it...you may as well charge for it. "

Just not on the ecnl team...lol. Those kids will all come from the non ecnl clubs that develop soccer players.
