Well I have a '13, and I can tell you, she's already the best in the age group! So you other toddlers better try to catch up.bwgophers wrote:jm23jm wrote:TheSoccerGuru wrote:Just keep an eye on FCD South Blue squad as they are building something special. Congrats FCD South on an amazing season destroying the competition. As far as top players that were on Kicks 07, Kicks 07 did pretty good without the top players last season in CFBAL in gold division. I think they finished 1st or 2nd. Is Kicks 07 the top team like they were at U6 and U7, No. Does the coach and parents care? I don't think so last time I checked. Continue destroying the competition and I hope Coach E continues working hard and concentrating on developing so they won't get destroyed when they play FCD.
Hey JM. Is it me, or is my infamous "3-year Theorem" regarding NTX soccer parent whackadoodleness being proven true? First the '01's, then the '04's, now the '07's...
Can't wait to see what the '10's and '13's bring to the table...
She already has offers from Kicks, RASE, and FCD Blue South on the table!

I concur with your "3 - year theorem". However, none compare to the crazy 01 parents back in academy. Lol.

The '01's had the depth and technical expertise, but the '04's had some serious fervor and a singular enemy (club/team/parent) to focus their wrath upon. The '07's seem to have a pre-mature, overly-exuberant bravado about their DD's and teams...

I thought the 07 age group was going to be a reasonable bunch
BW you are a stat guy. I would be curious to see what the correlation is between the craziness of an age group and the % of forum members in which it is their first kid going through NTX soccer world
Time and experience having kids go through the select soccer experience brings perspective. I got caught up a bit in this when my first kid was going select. Everyone made it out to be such a huge deal and I kind of bought in (i.e. a contract, new uniforms, QT, etc). A few years later how big of a deal was it really?? The pinnacle of my kids soccer experience is not at the age of ten I hope.
That is why I enjoy the posts from some of the more seasoned forum members that have been through the high school years and the college recruiting process. There is value in learning from their experiences- good and bad. Unfortunately, most of them no longer have reason to frequent the boards. The boards can be a valuable resource- for example BW helped me out in a difficult situation a few years ago and the color of our kids jerseys did not come up. Our kids may be competing, but as parents we are all going through this process together..just my 2 cents.

There's probably some truth to the "first-timer" factor, but the '01's weren't just a bunch of first-timers. Some of the key protagonists in the '01's were on their 2nd or 3rd rodeo.
It's interesting to watch the parents progress over the years. QT was like a giant lobotomy for the '01's, and we are downright tranquil these days, compared to the academy years. The '04's still seem to keep themselves fired up though (check the current Texas Cup '04 thread...). Of course, there will always be topics like CPP, ECNL, and Club Byes to get everyone periodically riled up in all age groups...

Great point. I will admit that my 07 is my first going through NTX soccer, and I actually find these threads to be extremely educational at times. Soccer is a different beast than I grew up with playing football and baseball, but it's all fairly similar in the end. Kids who are extraordinary at early ages will get passed by, some will pan out, and some kids who are late developers will blow by kids who were once much more advanced. Many will end up playing volleyball, basketball or something else.
At 8 years old, I want my dd learning the game, having FUN, making friends, and learning how to compete. If she tops out at this age, so be it. All that matters right now for me is finding the place where she will learn to love the game, and play it the right way as she develops her technical abilities. If she's any good at 14,15, 16, 17 years old, then we can have a different conversation....
There are a lot of good coaches and programs to be found in this city, and finding the fit for a particular child/coach/style of play seems to be the key.

Nothing says 07s won't be, though 70 teams, 10 kids..2 parents, so out of 1400 parents there gonna be some wackos. Most 07 parents don't come near the board...when one does...like Guru, then they get skewered. Most won't get forum humor if they haven't been following along. Some won't get the bravado that Guru's post seem to have. Sure FCD, with ex-Kicks players had their way with ASA 07 teams and this person was proud. I think the response people give those newbies says a lot as well. I congratulated on good season, and asked if they were coming to CFBAL. No skewering, doubt they got my point, but could have.
It would almost be like...... raising kids. They are going to make mistakes along the way, how we all respond to an infraction says a lot. First time your dd is in bed, midnight, and playing a video game do you pull out a belt, switch, ping pong paddle and start spanking? Or do you take the video game explain what they did was wrong and send them off to bed.(5th time a little different).
Can't we all just get along in a a kinder gentler forum?
