Re: Academy -vs- Rec
Nobody from a rec association is going to be double checking rec rosters/game times against academy league rosters/game times. The bottom line is that you'll only run into a problem if you and the rec coach don't see eye-to-eye on things, or if skipping a rec game for an academy game leads to a forfeit of the rec game. Of course if you are at the point where you and your DD are prioritizing academy games over rec games, you are probably at a point to move on from rec if push comes to shove.
Doubtful that the opponents of your rec team would be upset to the point of reporting you to the rec league director if the academy players from your team didn't show up to the rec game...

Whichever is more important to your daughter (and you) should come first.
I think there is a natural progression in a girl's (and the whole family's) soccer life where you make the transition to academy and you try to hold on to rec. Rec is fun and your daughter can dominate a game and you are with her (and your) friends. But if your daughter (and whole family) really embraces the game, there will come a day when you leave rec behind and it will simply be part of the "good ol' days."

I suppose for each kid/family there can be a different path to success, what ever that looks like.
Bottom-line maybe? Enjoy the journey and make friends, because there will be few bumps along the way.

Completely agree... it depends on your rec coach.RightWingDad wrote:Tom, I agree but I think it also depends on the age of the girl and the coach. If they are getting a year or two out from select, then I'd absolutely make the move to Academy. But development is key and if her Rec coach really knows the game of soccer and can develop her skills and soccer IQ, then maybe staying in rec is not a bad option. Certainly a less expensive one ;-)
