The article was DUMB! Unless I "missed" something, it tried to act as though we claim "Athletic" into who can just run! Like running is all we see as "Athletic". There is so much more to being a "Superior" ATHLETE than just running... And yes, I truly believe that if our "BEST" athletes (male) played soccer from the time they were born, they would be some of the best players in the world.

This is a typical result that majority of non-athletes skilled players are already filtered out by U15. Talked to some ENCL parents, they will tell you how athletic their daughters were since U7.

You can develop skills for an athlete but almost impossible to develop one's athleticism. Best soccer player is a good athlete working hard on skills.

It's really just that simple.

And this is why we have no Xavi, pogba, etc... no marta,...

I would love to hear the physical stats at which these guys feel the little but skilled ones should just quit. You guys should write a book and save parents a ton of money.

Put our athletes in those YourApeeIn systems and see what comes of it. Plus is it the player or the system at which they develope in?

It takes a player and it takes a system. There has to be athletic ability to be able to develop any form of skill at the sport.

The game has changed... it's not kick and run, it's not hard charging and blood and guts like the EPL of old... note the last time England won or seriously contended for a WC.

Winning vs/and Development - Page 2 Empty Re: Winning vs/and Development

when your dd starts playing soccer it helps to figure out your objective and goals. If the goal is playing on a winning team (regardless of level) then your developmental goals will be different from someone who's goals are to make the U18 nat team. And parents will have completely different perspectives of the same coach/training depending on this. If your kid makes the hs team one may be happy with her development and coach while her teammate who didn't make the national team will be disappointed.

and there is a sliding scale of athleticism vs skill. An athlete can be a play killer (defender) in college - their 'skill' is just stopping the other teams fwd and winning balls in the air. But ball and footwork skill is highly valued at midfield and fwd where possession, 1v1 etc.. are more important. I've known defenders who never did a skills session and played d1 soccer. Ive know slow small midfielders who made youth nat teams due to exceptional skill.

An overly broad statement that seems more to drip with: dd not ecnl so it is bad

I'm not sure what kind of kool-aid your drinking Triple-P, but whatever works for you. Keep believing what you believe.

Would love to be informed who is the "slow small midfielder" that in the national team?

Or even such kind of players in the current ENCL teams? LOL.

Maybe he's talking about yesteryear...or about players called up for a look due to coach connections but who didnt actually make a YNT roster. Plenty of small but quick and skilled players in YNT pools...some even say the trend is those types becoming the preferred option as us soccer tries to emulate barca....but I'm with you...small and slow?..love to hear more.
