I'm going to try to have an updated blog/thread going from this tournament when we're there. I'll see how it works out time wise, but hopefully I'll be able to, at least, update it daily with tournament information and the daily goings on.

To get us started, here's the accepted teams list, which looks to be very very strong:

Girls teams (in alphabetical order):
Arsenal FC – Southern California
Colorado Rush – Colorado
Crossfire Premier - Washington
Dallas Texans – Texas North
Eclipse Select - Illinois
Irvine Strikers – Southern California
Legends FC – Southern California
Lake Oswego S.C. – Oregon (host club)
Mustang Fury – Northern California
Neusport FC - Nevada
Ohio Premier – Ohio South
Players Development Academy (PDA) Slammers – New Jersey
Real Colorado National – Colorado
Real So Cal - Southern California
San Diego Surf – Southern California
Slammers FC – Southern California
Sockers FC Chicago - Illinois
South Bay Force - Southern California
Vardar - Michigan
West Coast FC – Southern California

Here is the tournament website with more information.

Good stuff. Let me know if you need any assistance getting info updated. I was talking with a Solar Red parent last night about the importance of our NTX teams perfoming well on a national level as we get into next year. Its already apparent that Texas doesnt get much respect at the National level by the points awarded for leagues and tournaments in other parts of the country. We have to start getting their attention and having 4 or 5 highly competitive teams will helo in that result.
Good luck to you guys both in Oregon and Baton Rouge.

Best of luck Gunners. Hopefully your girls can do some damage out there. Interesting format with the 20 min halves and the 3 person max substitution rule with no re-entry allowed. It is a strong group.

Ok, I do have to ask this question since so much is going on right now with players and tournaments falling right around tryout time. I guess its no longer a rumor that you guys are taking guest players. We know one is the Flower and there is speculation that another is a SR player. If you were to win the event and get the free trip to Sweden, who would you take to Sweden? The guest players, the existing team members or the new roster after signing date?"
Seems like a lot of confusion. Plus you have to throw in Regionals in the middle of June. How in the world are you guys keeping up with all of this and who in the world woudl you take to nationals?

That is a very good question. Who would play in Sweden if they make it? If there is a SR guest playing, is that a message as to where she will be after signing?

Only one guest player is going to Portland. As for Sweden, I don't know how that might play out, but I would assume the players going to Portland would be involved if the team gets that far. I don't think anyone is looking past this weekend's tournament, though. 2010 Manchester United Premier Cup (old Nike Cup) Icon_wink

As for Regionals/Nationals, those rosters are like State Cup, ie the possible kids going to either can only be from the players on the roster as of April 1st.

Thanks for the well wishes!

2010 Manchester United Premier Cup (old Nike Cup) Empty Re: 2010 Manchester United Premier Cup (old Nike Cup)

Post by Gunners 28/05/10, 10:01 am

Pretty neat day yesterday. The players got to practice at and take a tour of the University of Portland. It's a very very pretty campus, that has more of a small private school feel than a college. You can tell that soccer is their bread and butter (vs football/basketball) as all of their trophies/pictures are soccer related.

West Coast FC was practicing prior to us, so I got to watch some of them. Seemingly a very talented group, that I was all too happy to miss in bracket play (more on this in a bit).

The opening ceremony was interesting, but seemed to take much longer than it actually was. The Nike headquarters is pretty spectacular, and I think I barely saw any of it. Am looking forward to seeing a bit more, and also watching the kids play on what looked to be pristine fields.

The buzz in the room during (and after) the team draws was Group A. I'm glad to have avoided it, but we'll have our hands full as well. Looking forward to finally getting to see some soccer today, hopefully the weather obliges. Yesterday went from perfect in the morning/early afternoon to what seemed to be several inches of rain (and some small hail) late in the day.

They all are good groups. Arsenal will be a solid team as well. Neusport is good as well, very fast up top. All the Cali teams will be a challenge. Good Luck!

Surely you're not suggesting they're nicer than Lindsey Lyons!

Group A is a beast, IMO definitely the toughest draw. Group C appears to be the softest. Texans' bracket is a solid one...the big game should be with Arsenal.

Texans beat Real CO 2-0.

Very wet and cold today, but not too displeased with the resutls. Tomorrow should be better weather wise, let's hope the soccer follows suit.

Texans tied Strikers 0-0

Dominated the game, but nothing to show for it. Hate soccer sometimes....over and out. Neutral
