Re: Qualifying
Playing Formats
a) U11
The top 30 U11 teams will be identified through play in the Qualifying Tournament. The teams will be ranked (1 through 30) based on the Qualifying Tournament results.
(1) The top 20 teams in the ranking will play in Division I
(2) The next 10 teams in the ranking will play in Division III.
(3) Each team in Division I will play the other teams in their division once (19 games/team) during the soccer year. Each team in Division III will play the other teams in their division twice during the soccer year.
(4) Champion awards will be presented to the top team in each division based on total points earned throughout the entire soccer year.

The tournament website is at:

At the top right of this page, under : 2015 Qualifying Tournament Playing Format it says "Format will be added soon."
Two years ago, (and the years just before that) there were approximately 12 (give or take) groups of 4 teams for the first weekend. The teams that won each group were in D1 and didn't play the second weekend. Also, the lowest few teams were eliminated in the first weekend. I think they tried to get the second weekend down to 28 teams? The winner of the groups from weekend #2 went to D1 and any second place teams needed to get to 20 D1 teams. The next 10 teams went to D3.
Last year, LHGCL switched things up I think and the top 20 teams from weekend #1 made D1. No teams were eliminated weekend #1. The top 10 teams from weekend #2 made up D3. I didn't have an '04 go through QT, but I think this is accurate.

Re: Qualifying
Typically, somewhere in the neighborhood of 45-55 teams will sign up for the QT. Week 1 will be 4-Team brackets, with some possible 3-team brackets if the total # of teams isn't an even multiple of 4.
Each team plays the other 3 (or 2) teams in their bracket, using a 10 pt. scoring system (6 for a W, 3 for a D, 1 pt. for each goal scored up to a max of 3, 1 pt. for a shutout).
LHGCL has a seeding committee that seeds the teams from 1 to X, and the brackets are formed using a standard serpentine seeding method. i.e. for a 52 team tournament, bracket A would contain seeds 1, 26, 27, 52 and bracket M would contain seeds 13, 14, 39, 40.
Last year, there were 52 total teams, so 13 4-team brackets in Week 1. The 13 bracket winners + the 7 2nd place teams with the highest point totals, qualified for the 20 team U-11 D1 Supergroup. The remaining 32 teams were placed into 8 4-team brackets, based on week 1 results, and moved on to week 2. Week 1 points are cleared off the board. The 8 week 2 bracket winners + 2 2nd place teams with highest week 2 points qualify for D3.
Note that this was a change in the format from the previous 4-5 years. In previous years, only the week 1 bracket winners qualified in week #1. Some teams with the lowest week 1 point totals were eliminated after week 1, so that only 28 teams would move on to week 2, forming 7 4-team brackets in week 2. The remaining D1 spots + D3 spots were filled based on week 2 results.
