Soccer for underprivileged NTX children

I've spent a few years helping teach skills and provide soccer playing opportunities for children in the under-served minority community of Park Central in the Richardson Tx area.  Last August I mentioned this on the forum and a few of you generously met most of our needs regarding field boots, keeper gloves, shin guards, flags, balls and more.  Thanks for that!  The floods drowned our game fields for now, but we are currently providing soccer skills sessions through June (as well as parenting skills classes for mom and dad) for Park Central residents and have everything we need except for about 20 size-5 balls, new or like new, by this Wednesday.  If anyone has any spare ones, please PM or email SteamingBean@gmail.com

Some of these kids are highly talented, but the smile from every one of them is heart-warming and contagious.

Thanks once again forum members. We have 9 new balls and a bag of bibs thanks to your kind contributions. Last week we trained close to 70 kids and we are expecting 80 to 100 this week. It's great seeing these kids learn and participate in a sport they love who do not have the economic means to do so!

what is the name of your program?

It's the Park Central Soccer Program, serving K-6th in four apartment complexes in the Park Central neighbourhood. It's a combined effort of a handful of altruistic-minded coaches, volunteers, the YMCA, Richardson ISD, LionsRaw.org and local churches. We had 120 kids last competitive season, and so far the summer skills sessions and parenting skills classes are off to a good start.
