I believe Jimmy Spence is close to your area. Great coach who consistently produces great teams and smart/talented kids. He currently coaches the Liverpool Heighway team.

as a dad, i would say she is pretty good. she has played on traveling teams since she was 5 and was the captain of her last team. i don't know how that translates to texas level of play but she is quick and good at getting past defenders with the ball.

Just players that are "quick and good at getting past defenders with the ball"

Traveling team since age 5 huh?  Where did you move from?  That place could be crazier than NTX!

I have a number of friends and family in the NY/NJ area and have not heard about travel teams for 5 year olds. Which league / club did you play with? Sure the teams may play in a tournament a few towns away but I wouldnt call 9 miles a "travel team"

it was poor grammar. i meant that she has been playing for a traveling team and she has been playing since she was 5. sorry for the confusion. i didnt pick up on somebody saying that or i would have corrected that sooner.

So what club did she last play with? It may help people understand her ability a bit more so they can suggest appropriate teams here in Texas.

I would say all the recommendations above are good ones. We are with Fever in Keller and moved into the area a few years back. Retired from the military so my daughter played everywhere from Virginia, Florida and Mississippi. She did the traveling team and that was crazy indeed. Look at them all but also give Coach Kenneth Penn a call with fever. Excellent coach who is also the Director of Coaching. Many girls on the team are from Keller. We have skills training tonight from 6:30-7:30. His number is (214) 693-3262. Or just call me at (817) 791-8346.

I grew up in NJ in the 70s and 80s.  Soccer wasn't big back then in my area, but the kids that did play serious soccer played "traveling team" soccer.  We never referred to it as club or select.  Back then "traveling team" meant not rec to me.

Welcome to Texas and to the 02 Girls soccer world... Best of luck and even though my 02 doesn't play on this team, I do know some really great girls and families on the 02 Andro. Check them out. Honestly if you ever get bored and wanna know who or where not to go just go back into the archives of groups 00-03 and read some posts. North Texas Soccer is a Small World.

Another factor to consider is what league do you want to play in. Lake Highlands is considered the top league. Then you have Plano and Arlington leagues. Each has divisions within the age group too. Lake Highlands will have 4 opens spots this year and teams compete in a qualifying tournament. If someone says they have a "bye" back in that means they kept their spot from the previous year and don't have to re-qualify. You can look up last years schedule to see how the team you are interested in did last year by going to their league website. You can also get info from the GotSoccer page on all the teams. Research and meet a few teams and welcome to Texas! http://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/results.aspx?Level=State&Gender=Girls&Age=13&Region=3&State=TXN

new to the area Empty Saints 02G - Great Coaching, Team & Fields

Post by saintsinfo 26/06/15, 05:13 pm

It's unpopular to say - but if you are looking for a Balanced Experience in soccer in NTexas...it is not so easy to find.
Example: I heard today that a coach said "well do you want your daughter to get a scholarship, or just a driving license" when her daughter had to skip practice to take driver's Ed.

If you look closely, the SAINTS Raise Successful TEAMS (Team is the operative word- see below) that operate like a Team.  A good team will invariably outperform a collection of individuals.  Good team players have unusual characteristics - they are able to exercise individual skill when the opportunity presents, and settle in as a (simple) team player when it is to the team's advantage. This attribute is based on individual decision making - something that is less developed under 'dictatorial' coaches

The history of the SAINTS 02G Teams shows this continued (planned) team and player improvement.  The 02G/Law team was at/below half-way in D2 last year.  This year the Team finished (effective) #2 behind a very strong 'dromeda squad.  This was an extraordinary improvement.

The 02G Team is able to take advantage of spacious practice fields and scrimmaging against the 02G/Mee team and others - fields are always available for these events.  Despite the flooded fields this year, the SAINTS hardly missed a beat in practice.

Most important is recognition of "the Team".  For the Club, you will find that the Soccer experience is about the Family as a Team.  The real objective is to be successful in soccer without making the difficult and all to frequent sacrifice (financially and Time) that others seem to mandate.  Those parents who get it and wish to 'build their own experience, with soccer being an important part - but still just a part - of a youth's athletic experience (a brief 6-7 yrs).

While Mia Hamm came from these parts.... she is the only one at that level.  The rest of need to get our parents to realize that it is the Girl's /Boy's success that matter - not the bragging rights of the Coach or club.

Just sayin....
