reasonable food, plus travel and hotel expenses $30 per player for 200-300 mile road trip and one night hotel. more for flying and multiple night hotel expenses

That's exactly what she's worried about. It seems like somebody is getting a nice chunk of cash out of it though.

Re: Per Diem
Looks like some coach is charging each team the entire cost of trip. If you kid is a keeper deduct $1.57 for each save your kid makes on this trip from your next payment. If your kid is a forward, then well you are screwed.Anarchy wrote:Sho'Nuff wrote:It's ridiculous, but question it and you are a "difficult parent".

It's not my team or money lol. She asked me and I figured I would check here. She could ask other parents their thoughts, but she didn't want to be the cause for a stir over nothing if it's the norm. Most parents just pay and don't ever question anything, but it would be nice to have some sort of breakdown.

Re: Per Diem
That being said, I have known of a manager who divided the costs by fewer than the number of players going "in case someone didn't pay their share". Best answer there - ask the manager for an exact accounting of all costs paid by the team. If the coach has multiple teams, ask why your team is covering 100% of the per diem (or ask someone on another of his teams what they are paying).
You might be surprised - the problem may not be the coach.

Re: Per Diem
We've done half a million out of town tournaments with various kids and clubs and the coach always has travel, room and a reasonable per diem for meals.
We need to come to your club if the coaches pay their own way

My kid was on a team where there were many non-payers and it was expected that we cover their transportation, housing and food, and their share of the coach's expenses.
The per diem should be reasonable expenses spread across everyone going, multiple teams if applicable, no exceptions.

Re: Per Diem
We budget for travel per team (the ones that are going to travel) and the cost is part of the dues that way no one is asking for extra
I have seen coaches live it up while away all at the parents expense. We've had 2 here that are no longer at Triumph. We don't like to be associated with those type

She's paying about $30 over but with three teams that's around $1200. I've paid for coaches expenses and just never did the math. I really just assumed each club had a standard or guideline to follow.

i guess now i need to know how is team traveling? air car? how many nights at hotel? how much is nightly rate? $1200 may not cover coaches expenses to Disnry etc. $1200 would be excessive for a two night stay in Houston

Re: Per Diem
One caveat is you have to be booking through the list of approved travel hotels from the tournament (which is usually required)

nothing is free. you are correct though! if you book 10-15 rooms at the same hotel (usually for $20 per night increase or "full retail") they throw in an extra room for coach
