Funny, those kind of look like scores and standings. Guess they gave up on true development.

anyone looking at the scores/results doesn't get the purpose of JDL.  JDL is a place for the DDs to learn new positions, make mistakes, and for the coaches to try different strategies/formations that they can implement for tournaments (if not in LH) or for their LH games.  Ohter than a few over zealous teams, I have not seen too many of the DDs apply the same intensity into JDL as they do for competitive venues.

Maybe a result of the lack of score-keeping / rankings?

Does the USWNT play as intensely in their friendlies?

Odd thing - my DD has played for a number of coaches over the years - none were afraid to teach her different positions, let her experiment, and try different strategies / formations in LH games.

Wow. 10 games in and with the exception of a tournament final here or there, these 10 year old girls have no idea that there is any difference in these games, D1 games or tournament games. They are just playing the game. Rivalries are beginning to develop and teams are beginning to figure each other out to some degree. The fact that the parents and coaches aren't all acting like maniacs trying to stave off relegation is the development part. The fact that we have played 10 games (three with field players in goal and 2 without our starting CB, 2 without or starting forward) and we have been allowed the luxury of moving players around and seeing who can do what is great. In our last tournament, our keeper was knocked out of the game and we subbed in a field player without a hitch who did great. Our last game our CB was knocked out with a concussion and we moved players around and they all continued on without an issue. This is my 11th year of girls youth soccer so I've done the D1 relegation bit with one and now the JDL bit with the 2nd. All things can be fine tuned but I'll take letting the girls play without the yelling from the sidelines as everyone is a bit calmer and letting the coach move the kids around a bit as opposed to shear panic of giving up a late goal and thus points, all day long.

Keys to "Development"
* Let them have fun. If it is not fun, they will not continue to train and play with passion.
* Play them at the highest level where they get to play. Speed of the game is critical but only if they get to see it on the pitch.
* If they are hurt, sit them. Not hurting but hurt.
* Get them to play more positions. Most will NOT be playing where they are now at U18.
* Passing a receiving at this age can be painful to watch and you will lose games because of it. Cheer the pass, not the boot or bomb. They will get it.
* First Touch surpasses every other skill they can develop.
* It is a marathon, not a sprint. Whatever the game is at U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, it is meaningless. Let it go.
* See point above

Texans Midcities takes over their spot. Reporting the scores isn't an issue. Trying to decide how to approach the standings. Youthsoccerrankings.us ranks anyways.

It's really difficult to believe that the JDL haters are still so short sighted to take the name of the league so literally ... the same "development" joke is old and tired after 6 months.

In addition to the points made above by DDad, the most prominent benefit, and the real reason the league came about in the first place, is that most of the top teams in the area get more consistent high level competition. This alone is good for development of skill + mental toughness.

Lol.  Missed this on my first read.

What games have you been watching??!?  I have seen no appreciable difference in sideline yelling at JDL vs LH games.

But apparently, JDL is the only way (and the completely effective way) to stop sideline yelling.

JDL might be called the "just don't laugh" league - just don't laugh at the claims people are making on here.

Keys to "Development"
*  Let them have fun.  If it is not fun, they will not continue to train and play with passion - because scrimmaging all the time is fun.  Hey.  Let's give them all trophies too.  Let's hear it for lack of intensity!
*  Play them at the highest level where they get to play.  Speed of the game is critical but only if they get to see it on the pitch - Unless speed of play is compromised as indicated by the previous poster.  Last I checked, the highest level of competition at most all ages involves real competition.  And scores.  And winners and losers.
*  If they are hurt, sit them.   Not hurting but hurt. - agreed, regardless of JDL, LH, PPL etc.  if your coach is doing otherwise, you have bigger problems.
*  Get them to play more positions.  Most will NOT be playing where they are now at U18. - Well, fortunately it is mandated by JDL.  Or not.  Or the coach will let them play different positions, regardless of the league they are playing in.
*  Passing a receiving at this age can be painful to watch and you will lose games because of it.   Cheer the pass, not the boot or bomb.  They will get it. - Wow, you must have seen some pretty developmentally fantastic JDL games.  I've seen some great passing . . . and plenty of boot ball.  Not much different mix than D1.
*  First Touch surpasses every other skill they can develop - if they haven't learned it by now, they won't learn it in JDL.
*  It is a marathon, not a sprint.   Whatever the game is at U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, it is meaningless.   Let it go.

As much as you keep trying to convince everyone that is the case (and not primarily as a recruiting tool for the ECNL clubs) it has been established that if the REAL reason is more consistent competition, then that goal would have been achieved by being more INCLUSIVE and less EXCLUSIVE.  Every age group CLEARLY had better teams excluded from JDL prior to the beginning of the season - a decision affirmatively made by the clubs.

The decision to exclude 05 Kicks runs completely counter to your stated "real" reason the league came about in the first place.

Let's talk about that. The reason that development is still brought up is because that is what every JDL parent said was the reason for its existence. Yes they said the comp would be more consistent too, however we had to hear about development for months. Competition is the next topic. Playing the OK teams (no disrespect) doesn't seem to be the best competition on a regular basis. Same could be said for the STX teams. NTX team seem to roll over both fairly consistent with an exception here and there. Playing each other seems to be the most consistent however you still have the teams that are only winning a game or two.

The decision to exclude 05 Kicks runs completely counter to your stated "real" reason the league came about in the first place.

Just Don't Laugh  lol!

When it comes to JDL hating, we can always count on you SoS ... deja vu --

This league was built as a stepping stone to the ECNL for ECNL clubs ... purty simple stuff. Being intelligent and forward thinking, the heads of these clubs know that the majority of the top talent either currently play at these clubs or will eventually play at these clubs. If JM had been able to get over his pride and had held up his end of the deal they would have been in JDL and had the ECNL track for their players as well. As it is, come June, DFeet are likely gonna be looking into hospice care, and due to DA, you can count on Kicks players to start trickling away over the next couple of years.

Other than the one Kicks team in 05, are there really any other top teams not currently competing in JDL? I can't come up with any at 04 and I'm no 06 expert but it looks like all of the top teams are there.
