Youth Soccer Rankings USA

Youth Soccer Rankings took a shot a ranking the 07's. 07's seem to represent the Nation and Region 3 fairly well. What is yalls thoughts on how it compares to FBR?

As the almost retired 07 ranker, I have to say I embraced YSR.  We have 2 different ways of ranking our NTX group, but generally speaking, similar results were obtained.  Once these rankings came out, a certain section of vocal critics seemed to cease as well.  2 people had their ranking they coveted so much, so made it easier on me.

There are certainly some teams w big differences.  Say Sting Glotzbach.  I don't think YSR by design can be as nimble as local rankings.  Games that teams and coaches play can lead a National Ranker astray, where, here in NTX, nothing remains a secret for long(Like when a coach tells refs to mark a score 3-3, when her A team just beat her B team 5-0).  I accounted for that, YSR didnt.  Forfeits, YSR includes as a 3-0 win/loss, if the game never played, it shouldnt be included, imho.

Nationally the rankings are surprising accurate, or has been for our team.  It's 10 year olds, so there will always be outlier games.  In Vegas, we generally won by the 'spread' listed in YSR.  I was sort of amazed at how accurate it was, maybe my sample size of 5 games was too small.

Going forward, as I ride off into the sunset, I am glad YSR will have rankings.  Love them or hate them, most look at them.  I'm just glad in 2 weeks, I can move on to other things.  Maybe I'll be a referee?

I've followed YSR closely for this and other age groups and find it to be remarkably accurate. FBR07 points out some of the obvious flaws. I would add that it includes games back to August, which, for academy teams, is too long. YSR and FBR are similar at the top of the rankings. But they diverge headed into the teens. Whatever the algorithms, YSR doesn't give as much credence to the teams that have never or rarely played in the platinum divisions of leagues or tournaments. FBR seems not to account for that as much. For instance, FBR has Sting Larry and LP Alonso at 15 and 17 (the Pre Tut FBR), but YSR has them at roughly 26 and 27 (if you remove teams in front that have gone away). Until those teams and teams like them play top competition, I think they are more appropriately ranked in YSR.

#1 is ranked too low...

Please recheck your numbers:

Currently 28 and 29 per YSR.

Remove:  1,7,11,14,18,22,23,24

Adjusts them, for apples to apples comparison, to 20 and 21, vs FBR of 15 and 17.  Within a normal tolerance to me, maybe not others.

You're correct, missed a few in there and didn't check that others weren't lower on FBR. 4-5 spots is not normal tolerance to me on that point of the scale. If it were 4-5 and we were talking about the 30th or 35th team, then perhaps. But I hear ya.

"No clue, really" says the guy responsible for the rankings. That may give you some indication of the accuracy of those rankings.

As for YSR, it obviously favors TXN/CAS teams so I don't know how much stock you can put in it as a complete ranking system. However, I think the rankings are much more complete than the FBR, it takes into account games play outside a teams age/gender group and weights the wins and losses differently depending on the opponent.
