How hard is it to play in college if D1 is the highest level of soccer that you play in high school? Do you have to play for FCD, Solar or Texans? If your team doesn't play in many tournaments, I guess that you have to try some ID camps.

If your kid is not playing on a club team that is playing in tournaments or circuits that tend to attract college coaches, it is much harder, but not impossible, to get on a colleges radar.

Typically the top team or two at the major clubs will provide that exposure. Top teams at smaller clubs or independent teams that are good will often also get that exposure.

Even then it is encumbent on the player to be proactive in contacting the schools they are interested in and the player is being realistic in their target so that the coach is likely to return the interest.

If your kid isn't playing on the type of team that will bring college coaches to your sideline, I don't know of another high probability way to get on their radar other than to go to their ID camps.  You are on the right track. Pick a handful of schools and go kill it at their camp.

Also have the athlete email the coaches of the school she’s interested in or surrounding schools and send video of themselves if they’re not on a club team with high exposure.

Your player needs to initiate the contact with the College Coaches. Yes it is possible.

There were over 300 NTX frosh rostered to college programs this year, not including juco. If a kid has some talent and the desire, there is a place to play in college.

The keys, as some of the vets mentioned, are the player initiating the contact and having a realistic view of the fit.
