Solar win U16/17 DA Championship

Solar boys won the U16/17 DA championship final last night in Irvine CA versus Concorde Fire. 1-1 after extra time. Chris Edwards made two penalty saves to win the shootout 4-2. In addition to a huge team effort to win the championship Chris Edwards won the Golden Glove and Bailey Sparks won the Golden Ball.

Fantastic achievement for the team coached by Adrian Solca, Chris Stricker and Shawn Ramsden. They reached the playoffs as the 8th seed following an excellent season finishing second to FC Dallas in the DA frontier division. On their way to the final Solar defeated defending champions Seattle Sounders, Bethesda, Montreal Impact, FC Dallas and La Galaxy. The quarterfinal against FC Dallas was particularly challenging as Solar had not beaten FC Dallas for at least 4 years in this age group. There is great respect between the two local teams and it was a great advertisement for North Texas soccer.

Solar girls are in the U16/17 DA final tonight so it could be an amazing double for Solar.

Bailey did not win the Golden Ball or actually the Golden Boot. Bailey won best overall player.

Miguel Ramirez on Concorde won Golden Boot for most goals scored.

All games leading up to the final, including the final, were great games to watch. Great performances by Solar.

Girls won too...

Huh...I stand corrected. They didn’t call it the golden ball last night just the overall best player. But called it golden ball tonight with Trinity Byars winning the award. Good job Solar girls!!!

YA'LL!!! That sweet little Russian midget was just dancin up a storm. It brought a tear to my eye watching how happy all those lil sweetpeas were.

My sweetpea had a bad case of altitude sickness which is why we let Solar win this time. See ya'll on the 405.
