09 LAKE HIGHLANDS

Does anyone know why there is a gap in the schedule? Why no games this weekend and then again on Sept 28-29 weekend? Just seems a little weird considering the amount of games that were canceled last year... wouldn't think they would want to omit 2 weekends... maybe a few big tournaments or something??

Good question. No answer. There are only 7 games out of a 19 game schedule set up for this fall. And spring has the rain; fall does not usually have much rain. So figure, obviously the schedule person is not a rocket scientist.

Something about field availability and needing the front load the high school games.

As noted above the older girls U-15 and up have their schedule heavily front loaded due to high school soccer. Their Spring Lake Highlands games will not start until late March when we will be playing most our games

Any surprises this last weekend?

I was surprised with the goal diff between Lovegrove v. Solar East and Bones v. Spirit. I didn’t expect to see Solar Grado lose their game either.

It looks like both Solar East teams are continuing to improve. They both seemed to have a lot of raw talent before joining Solar but are now coming along. Both seem like they are now capable of surprising the top teams in North Texas. It will be interesting to see how they fair across the entire season. I think they are still pretty raw so maybe they can get even better.

I think Spirit lost a key player or two after signing so that might explain their results since going Select. Khoury has a knack for getting his teams to get results above their talent level so I’m sure he will get them back on track... it just takes time when you lose key players.

I heard there is some kind of pre-DA, pre-ECNL, super teams league going on sponsored by Girls Classic. What is happening?

I would hardly call it pre-DA. It’s a mix of the FC Dallas “JDL” teams, Sting “JDL” and a couple of Solar “super” teams. Rumor has it Solar South declined to participate, so take that for what it is worth. The teams in Classic appear to be stronger than what this league is offering. I’m sure the allure of some pre-elite league/team is good for recruiting though. Good thing, they will need it from the uproar and division it is causing on some of the Solar teams. Open tryout season should be interesting.

Does Sting have stronger 09 teams outside of Classic?  Spence seems to be their strongest offering, but got screwed in QT by the rain...?

Sting Spence is the Sting JDL team. At least that’s the name on it.

I don't know how strong a team they are, but they are doing well in Div 2 Classic.
I say/ask if they were perhaps screwed in that week 2 of qualifiers didn't happen and perhaps they are stronger than teams that eeked into Div 1.

Maybe but they did not win their bracket the first weekend so that is why they were forced to play in the 2nd weekend. Who knows what would have happen if the 2nd weekend would have been played. But if they would have taken care of it the first weekend there would be no issue.

I would note there is a significant gap in talent between a top 5 (or even 10) in Division 1 vs the top of Division 2.
