Do your research before joining with this coach, ask other parents. In my opinion he is a poor representation of Solar. It’s hard to develop a kid when he is on his phone half of the practice.

I think that is a cheap shot and not fair. No
Coach is perfect but I can tell you my daughter played for Coach and loved him and got much better. He’s a great coach and his track record can’t be argued with. This is a great team who knows how to play the game and the girls/parents are top notch.

Not a cheap shot. I’m just one parent and if others have a good experience that’s great. This is my honest experience and assessment. I wish more people would share their experiences with coaches and clubs. Unfortunately youth soccer is a business and i would not buy his product.

That has not been our experience with Coach Colvin. Our daughter played for him for years, and has had a wonderful experience. Someone whose past players still call, reach out and look for guidance from years after they have played for him wouldn't seem to me to be a bad representation of anything. I'm pretty grateful my daughter had him as a coach. She wouldn't be the player she is without having learned from him.

I can’t believe what I’m seeing here. You must have him mistaken for someone else. You can’t be talking about the most humble and patient person I’ve ever met. A man who’s a mentor for thousands of young girls/women across Texas. A man who misses time with his own children to develop ours. A man who takes his 07’s to Jefferson Cup for 4 days, wins, drives (to keep parent cost down he doesn’t fly) thru the night (from Virginia to Dallas) Sunday, goes straight to school, teaches and coaches all day then goes to Solar practice and wraps his day up around 9:30pm. That’s one of hundreds of examples of how he gives just about everything he’s got to girls development in soccer and life. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion but how would you feel about someone jumping online being critical of your work? It just isn’t necessary, I don’t understand.

I agree...coaches are not perfect because they’re human beings. I cannot believe either what I just read about Colvin. I’ve been around a while now and I can tell you that he’s a coach who truly focuses on the development of his players. There’s a reason why he’s able to retain most of his rosters and the parents are loyal to him. It sure wouldn’t be because he’s on the phone half of the practice. That wouldn’t make any sense. All I can say is that his teams are solid and his players are top notch. I also agree...when we face them, his players and parents are some of the most respectful on the field.

I am a Colvin parent and have never seen him on the phone at a practice or game in the past 3 years. It saddens me to see this defamation toward a respected and loved coach. Our girls are dedicated and sweet. Coach only has the best interest and development of the girls in mind. Come to a practice and see for yourself.

I am also a Colvin parent and I have never seen him on the phone during practice either. He’s a dedicated and down-to-earth coach and my daughter loves to play for him. This team has zero drama, the girls are sweet and focused. You will need to come to one of our practices to check it out for yourself and see why Colvin’s players and parents love and respect him.

Haven't been on this forum in years but was told about this thread.

My dd played 3 years for Matt. I didn't even know he had a phone. In those 3 years, I never saw him mail-in a single training session (a very rare thing, btw). If a player wasn't able to develop there, it wasn't because of the coach.

His ex-players, including my dd, are devoted to him. For good reason. The number of top-level collegiate players who he has helped develop are legion.

Finally, Matt is a good, honest and decent family man who has given much to the game in North Texas. He really doesn't deserve this.

Our daughter has played for Coach Colvin for 6 years.  Simply put, he is a phenomenal coach. We have been lucky our daughter has been able to play for him, and Solar is a better club because of him.  

He has instilled in her a love of the game that no one else has.  He has taught her how to play with creativity, not repetitively practiced plays.  Matt has a special way of knowing how to talk to and work with each player to pull the very best out of them, knowing what uniquely motivates each individual player. He makes her laugh every single practice. She looks forward to every practice and every game.

Instead of focusing on winning each game, he focuses on the long term development of each player. He wants them to be the best they can be when it is time for him to hand them off to the next coach.

In the past 6 years we have watched coaches and how they conduct themselves on the sidelines, and we think it speaks volumes to who they really are.  Come watch a practice or a game - you will find Coach Matt Colvin is one of the most humble, gracious, polite, classy and effective coaches you will ever meet.
