Whats better futsal or indoor?

Any opinions?

Both are good but futsal is a lot tougher on ball control.

I think they both offer value; From another post here are the reasons I like indoor:

2. Fast paced game with minimal stoppages
3. More touches on the ball per player
4. Improved fitness levels
5. Develop small group defending, attacking, and transition
6. Improves players individual skills
7. Kids Love it and find indoor soccer to be “FUN”

9. More scoring opportunities due to smaller field size.
10. Did I say “ITS FUN”

Assuming that futsal is played in side and on a "field" thats about the size of a basketball court, wouldn't all of that apply to both futsal and indoor?

Both indoor and futsal have benefits.

Futsal is the one that less people are familiar with so let me make a few comments. Futsal is supposed to be played with more skill and MUCH less physical contact that regular soccer, although the referees don't always understand this nuance. The emphasis is skills on the ball, quick passing, and moving without the ball. Because the court is smaller, few players can beat more than one defender on the dribble. This results in a lot of small triangles and give-and-go patterns between the players. In addition to discouraging physical pushing and shoving, futsal does not have any walls, which further reduces the chance of injury. Bottom line, futsal is all about speed, trapping, quick passes, and running without the ball.

Indoor soccer tends to be much more like outdoor soccer, where there is plenty of rough play. The spaces are larger giving more room for a talented kid to dribble through defenders. The turf slows the ball more than it does in futsal (even though it is still way faster than real grass). Indoor soccer is more like outdoor soccer, so theoretically, you are more likely to stay in soccer form with indoor soccer over futsal.

I personally believe futsal is a great change-up during the winter season. It forces the kids to learn completely new things, while indoor soccer doesn't change things quite as much. But that's just one opinion...

Indoor can give concussions but futsal can impale and kill you. Literally.

I think all three are their own games: It would be like saying is wiffle ball baseball? is badmitten tennis?
Sure there are similarities and all offshoots of games will help develop skills for the "mother" game but each should and can be enjoyed as just the game it is.

There is nothing similar about futsal's hard court to a grass field so traditional indoor would be more similar to the outdoor game in that sense. Both futsal and indoor teach ball skills and on and on; but at the end of the day, enjoy it for the game it is and let the kids have fun. It really does not always have to lead somewhere, sometimes it can just be about fun and if it aids in developing a better player along the way, enjoy that!!!

New things, such as, how to control the ball with quick changes of direction in a tight space. Unfortunately, that is indeed a new thing for many players, but better late than never to start working on it.

Futsal without a doubt.

I don't know bout all that. Let's just play kickball...that's what I played as a kid..It was just fun...fun...fun...but you knew you had to have some sort of skill!! Parents against parents??

Why don't you just play Futsal indoors and get the best of both worlds?

Thats kind of funny... do they still make bongs, ahhhh the memories...

Futsal easily. It requires more skill, quick touches and uses a heavier ball. Indoor is basically the outdoor game moved inside and has the walls to keep the ball in play. Futsal requires players to use skill and touch to control the ball and keep it in play.

Hate it when the dd's run into and/or play off the wall. Agree that futsal much better for developing smart skilled players.

Why not play futsal on indoor turf fields? I know there are places that do so. Why play on a basketball court? That isn't realistic at all.

Because when you do it on a court, the ball does not stop rolling. You can't get lazy and kick it and then have the grass slow it down or stop it for you. It teaches you to keep the ball close.

If you have not experienced futsal-done-right, it looks like the Mariel brothers of City Futsal are putting on a mini-tourney this month on the 23rd. http://cityfutsal.com/tournaments

They moved to the absolutely awesome IAD facility (I-35E northbound access road, just north of George Bush). We had a great experience when we entered one of their SMU tournaments in the past, so if your team wants to try out futsal without committing to a full season, this is a good opportunity.

I like futsal better than indoor for all of the reasons already mentioned . I agree City Futsal is great, it seems to be well organized and the competition level is good. Indoor is fun to watch but I think the skills learned in futsal translates better to the outdoor game.

I just could not disagree more: not that one is better but that indoor does not develop skills. I had the fun and pleasure of watching indoor yesterday and the depth to which it "teaches" tight space control, immediate transition, short passing, speed to the ball, pace of the game and overall aggression towards wanting to "win" the ball and control the game was amazing. (plus it was allot of fun to watch, even if it is 7 year old soccer). I think futsal is fine but it could no more mimic "the game" then the man on the moon. Indoor at least is on turf, played in cleats and allows space for realistic replication of the outdoor game. They are both fun and a part of "the game" but for me indoor is the way to play. The benefits are clear when we step back on the outdoor fields and no we do have any weeks of transition to reacclimatize as some have suggested. Either way go enjoy and let the girls have fun, I know ours are.
