Alcohol at games

We moved here over the holidays so this is our first experience with academy soccer in north Texas. I've thought about this for awhile before posting because I don't want to come off as out of touch or a fuddy duddy (we are a little older to be parents of an '02DD), but we were in a tournament last weekend and played a team whose parents were obviously drinking alcohol out of plastic cups and some of them seemed quite inebriated. Is this common? Are there rules against alcohol consumption at the game fields? I asked some of our parents and they seemed surprised too. I'm not one to tell another adult what to do, but alcohol and a children's soccer match just don't seem like good partners to me and definitely not anything I want my DD to be around. Any thoughts?

OMG, no, not adults drinking alcohol at a sporting event? Was their drinking causing you severe mental anguish, maybe you should inflict your morals on them...quick, whip out your bible and start judging, immediately? Make sure our youth aren't exposed to adults and alcohol quite yet. Quick, where is Josh Hamilton, is he safe?

In all seriousness, no, this isn't that common. It does happen on occasion, especially at tournaments, but I would say most of the time it is done quietly and discreetly. I know at one time my DD played on a team and after practice the dad's would have a beer and the kids would go to the park - it didn't seem wrong at the time.

There are specific rules for all of the parks in which kids play. If I'm not mistaken, alcohol is prohibited at all of those venues. I'd hate to be associated with a group that gets caught for breaking such a rule. I don't understand why people have to make alcohol a necessary part of youth sports. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Another rule I see being broken occasionally is that the is no smoking inside the parks, but you know how those types are that need their cancer sticks every 5 minutes.

And don't get me started on those fools that brings their pets to the game when those are prohibited as well.

Was it a hot toddy? Cause that would be a survival tool necessary for all parents for the last two weekends.

Alcohol is not a good mix during a game with some of these hot head parents who think every game is the precursor to making the world cup cut off.

Many games, as I watch our team take a beating, I have wished for a valium or a shot of tequila just to take the bite/sting off, but then I would have to share it with my daughter to help her thru this "life experience". Then again "DDPlays4Beer" would be a great login name!

What you saw is very rare, and not the norm in my humble opinion, but then again I stay in my corner to watch games and only come out when my daughter says it's time.

Alcohol at games is not nearly as rare as one would think. The later the Fri or Sat night game, the better the chance.

It wasn't me... I promise! Although my idea for another league (K.A.L./Kick Ass League) has alcohol sales as a way to raise funds for the best fields and refs possible!

I can tell you this, if you get caught with alcohol at a city park like Railroad, you may get punished by the league you are playing in (LHGCL, SDL, PAL or whatever is the flavor of the day), but that will pale in comparison to what the authorities will do. I've seen an individual get big $$ fines for possession of alcohol in a public park and they hit him with something else along the lines of public intoxication although he didn't seem drunk to me. Barney Fife doesn't mess around with alcohol around parks and kid's sports.

Was the Blue Dolphin Party RV on the premises? If so, then it doesn't surprise me. That bad boy gets rockin' at youth sporting events, AA meetingss, church, courtrooms, and even just rollin down the block.

Fans much better than the club!!

Negative... I see a Carling Cup and an FA Cup on the horizon... now if we can finish strong for a top 4 finish.

You should avoid all Disney tournaments in the future. Not only are you allowed to consume alcohol on the sidelines, they even have a bar setup to sell it to you!
