1. FCD Grubb (neutral) (power, passing, and purpose)
2. DT Higgenbotham (neutral) (avoiding all 02 girls games with great athletes on roster)
3. SRSA Colvin (negative) (how quick will they figure it out, not much time before QT)
4. DT South (neutral) (power-ball)
5. Solar Dynamo (positive) (barca-ball)
6. Sting Searles (negative) (new assembly, don't have identity yet)
7. Polaris (negative) (too reliant on athletics)
8. Fever Red (positive) (better than last two weeks made them look)
9. FCD Renfro (positive) (should be in gold, but building confidence)
10. Solar Gio (positive) (should be in gold, but building confidence)
Dirk, like the trending addition...now can you get back to wiining more games? I'm a little worriedabout the mavs season

This group of girls has played 8 total games together and has been improving each week. It's all okay like I said, we see what's happening and when all's said and done the rankings will play out. Spirit was lucky to come out with the tie as the Saints really controlled the play all over the field except the scoreboard. We just need to put more balls in the back of net.
You lost to solar barnes in that same stretch of games, right?

Re: Human Rankings
Contrary to many people's thoughts, I think that there is great competition from the top to bottom of the top 20. FCD Premier Grubb might have it firing on all cylinders but they were none-the-less held to just one goal in the first half of each of their last two league games. Outside of this one in-great-form team, I see great competition that extends well into the mid-teen slots, and perhaps as deep as number 20. Right now, any reshuffle from #6 - #15 can be reasonably defended. And the Saints want in, damn it! I believe several teams from the mid-teens could upset teams ten slots above them on the right afternoon.
What this means to me is that the league should have excellent parity going into the 20 team D1 LHGCL year. 20 solid competitive teams is like a tide that raises all boats. It makes North Texas, as a group, more competitive against teams in other youth soccer hotspots like Florida and California. It also gives more girls room to be a star on a good team. Just look to Europe to understand the great importance of parity -- in the Premier League, there are lots of great teams and a lot of upsets. In Spain, just two teams completely dominate the scene. The Premier League continues to extend its lead because of parity.
We are far better off with competition that results in many upsets than in a league where just a few teams dominate. I'm cheering for teams to rise to their potential and to recruit the best players when they can -- it only makes all of us better to have more quality filtering up into D1-bound ranks. If your daughter is D1 ready but on a team outside the top 30, now is the time to make a move and at least check out some top 20 team practices. Don't wait until a month before qualify tournament for most slots will be filled. Don't miss getting into what promises to be a far-better-than-the-average-year D1 league from #1 - #20.

Why worry about whether you are getting "love" from other parents posting subjective rankings. If your team continues to play well, you will get "love" from the FBR. Alternatively, get your supporters to post their own rankings!

Why worry?
a) Recruiting - easier to get better kids if ranked in the top 20
b) Recruiting - more on roster, better finances for team and club and coach
c) Hoping for better seeding in tournaments, esp all-important LH QT.
d) Many parents live their sport fantasies through their kids - brag as though they are the ones on the pitch
e) All of the above

I accept that some people pay attention to the FBR and that it might influence seeding in the QT and recruiting, but I think its a stretch to say that the parent generated popularity contest "rankings" are seriously considered by anyone. If that were the case, I think you'd see more people participating in the rankings. I've wondered whether it would be possible to get all of the coaches to participate in a coaches poll - that would be interesting. I'm certain they would be objective . . .

It is an interesting question overall. FBR is quite new, correct? I don't think FBR was in play with the 99s, 00s, 01s, was it? GotSoccer doesn't start tracking teams until after select kicks in. There are too many teams for TDs to see them all. The tournaments that lead up to QT matter a lot for LHGCL QT seeding (I suspect the results in these preQT contests is the #1 input). But the TDs that control the tournaments that happen right before QT must rely on something for seeding their brackets. How those are seeded matters a lot as to which teams advance to Sunday. And then you have teams that avoid certain tournaments or play up in older brackets. I would not be surprised that everything available is used to try and line them up in May and June, including parent popularity contests on forums. It feels like we will have more than 50 teams fighting it out for 30 slots at the current trajectory.

FBR was definitely around for the 01's - bwgophers has published his analysis of the correlation between his final FBR rankings for the 01's and the results of their QT - very impressive. Don't know about prior years - what do you know about that bwgophers?

Re: Human Rankings
1. Dynamo- is she the reason they have been scoring all the sudden?
2. FCD Renfro- she would complete this team along with the recent additions from the old Glotz team...no more silver division on this team!
3. LP Rangel- she was playing with them against FCD Grubb and scored the only goal against FCD so far! They need her bad!
Wild Card team? None other than Solar Gio! I don't think she has guested with Gio yet but she would make this team dangerous...combine her with the guest player forward(ex Webb and FCD Premier) that played with Gio last weekend and you now have a very dangerous scoring threat duo...if Gio landed both of these...woah mamma! Actually if any of these teams landed both it would be danger!

and in the first game of this season, Grubb scored all their goals against LP Rangel in the 1st 1/2 of the game and none in the 2nd 1/2. So props to LP Rangel for not allowing Grubb to score in the 2nd 1/2...

I know that the "Power Rankings" pre-dated FBR, and there were human polls as well. To what extent they were done or anyone paid attention to them prior to the '01's, I really can't say.
I'm pretty sure the '01's took rankings to a completely unprecedented level, with 2 weekly computer polls, a weekly human poll, and a BCS that wrapped the three of them together.
Have parents made a decision to look at/not look at a team for their DD based on rankings published on this forum? Probably.
Was that a wise choice? IMO, NO.
Has a team's ranking been a primary factor in a family's decision to actually join a team? Gawd I hope not, as that would be a BIG mistake IMO.
Do TD's use FBR to help with seeding? I have had a couple TD's from "fringe" tournaments PM me that have used FBR as a guide, but I would honestly be very surprised if the more well known TD's like Dom Falcinelli, Ray Hirschowitz, Jesse McNeil, or Brandon Hollmann, told me that they use it.
Does Lake Highlands use FBR in the seeding of the QT? After having sat through the managers meeting for the QT last year, I can say with a HIGH level of confidence that the answer is HECK NO! The LHGCL seeding committee has a long history of seeding their QT, and I'm sure that they trust their own eyes and their myriad club connections far more than a computer ranking by some random idiot that popped up last year on a public forum discussing 10yr girls soccer (no matter how good that random idiot's system may or may not actually be).
When you go to the LHGCL QT manager's meeting this summer, they will tell you straight out that their seeding committee gets a large amount of their input from watching teams play in the two primary July tune-up tournaments (King TUT and Puma Cup). There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence that suggests that the seeding committee supplements their own observations with input from individuals in the NTX soccer community who they respect as having solid knowledge of the game and local teams (i.e. varioius DOC's, etc.). Trust me when I say that I am NOT one of those people (and for good reason, I might add). I highly doubt LHGCL gives any consideration to anything that is written on this forum when it comes to seeding the QT.

Very shortsighted of LHGCL to ignore this forum as it is full of objective analysis and wisdom. I know I'm full of it (wisdom) - just ask my mother - she'll tell you.

1 player has guested/played with Dynamo, Renfro, and Rangel. The other player played with Gio last weekend.....2 differant players....I don't believe either one is on a roster yet, but I could be wrong! I started the thread only planning on talking about 1 player, then I remembered I saw the other girl playing with Gio last weekend and thought I would throw that in as well! Very confusing I know!

This is a really good example of how an overlooked nonstarter player can head to another team (maybe not a top three team-but very close) and make a huge difference and actually get to play the game. This has been one of my main points for the last six months!
It makes very little sense to sit #14 or #15 or #16 on a bench, especially for a coach that plays his top players most of the time, even if that team is a "top, top" team. Often, it is simply too many kids of a similar skill set. The argument to stay at the top is -- you get to practice hours each week with the very best -- but the argument to leave is that it is actually FUN, confidence-building, and fulfilling to be a key productive member of your team and not be in a situation where your parents are monitoring your minutes played at every game.
There's more to it of course. There are complexities like coaches that say one thing but then do another, and misguided parent ambitions. But I have yet to find a kid that prefers to wait for most of the game on the bench.
The other end of the spectrum -- where one or a few kids have to carry the entire team on their backs -- is also a problem. It is hard to get better as an individual when you have scant few teammates who can help with an adroit give-and-go; few who get open in pockets of space; few who make a good diagonal run at the right moment; or few who hustle and take practice seriously.
There is a right team for every player, but you must search if you expect to find.

Its 2 different girls. I saw the ex-DT HIGGY player play last weekend and she single handedly took that team to a new level and played almost the whole game. I wonder why the parents left? Maybe because Higgy hasn't been around due to TCU or maybe because of playing time. This goes to show you that a girl on a top team "can" move to a new team and make a difference! Kudos to her parents for letting it be about the kid and not the system or coach! I bet she goes to Dynamo. JMO

Don't kid yourself people. The former SRSA/Higg player is a great little girl. However the reason she is "former" is because of her parents. They were asked kindly to find another team for themselves and their daughter. Keep them quiet and allow the coaches to do their job, she may have a chance to be great on another team.
