Bench players: Problem or Necessity?

A discussion on the '02 forum made me think about bench players at this young age. Should teams be small sided with no subs and games be played on smaller fields for shorter periods of time? Does it help the Japanese that do it?
Or
Are bench players unmotivated cancers with bad attitude parents that don't know a teaching moment to save their life like most starters parents think?

if your DD is not playing at leaset 50% of the time find another team.
You are only there to pay the bills!
Move to a team where she is developing unless you enjoy watching her sit, then quit in a few years because she is frustrated.
